I think he is going to be right. It doesn't look any better and I wish Obama would stay in his own country and take care of business instead of being on a world tour and forget about some of the other BS and work on the economy. They just laid off 100 people here at the local hospital. Wait a minute I guess he wasn't born here was he.

The trailer rental/ lease buisness must be where the money is in trucking.

I see it here too, the illegal Mexican owned trucks are gaining a foot hold in this area. These guys used to be pretty quiet and sheepish, but they have learned there is no consequence for them moving here illegally. They have become boldly motivated when it comes to working harder and longer for less than what the job is worth. I for one am not willing to cut them a seconds worth of slack on anything, and I will go out of my way to make their life just a little bit harder. It would be a dis-honor to my family, and what they gave to make this country what it is if I do any less.

If Richard is getting out it is bad. He has more contacts than about anyone. I see his point when the rates are what they were 10-20 years ago.

I think it is. Very little upkeep on trailers and get paid every load.

In Hutch some guys came up from western kansas because of low rates by Latinos. However they just cut our rates so they are not much better. They said rates were better up here, I said they were until you cut them.

Only aggregate haulers are the ones making some kind of money and alcor. Those are the only ones i can name off the top of my head. Half of them moved on to the ports i still see truck's with there numbers for hanson on the windshield. Some still make decent money hauling scrap. I was raised around this and man it's just bad. Trucks are for sale everywhere people just don't know what to do. My dad was leased to all-ways last year and only lasted about three months all together.

4 factorys went belly up in danville last month, bout 750 jobs.
things are just starti'n to get bad here,i think. 1 of my first and most loyal feed mills i haul soyhulls for told me yesterday that they had a bid 1$ per ton lower than what i'd been hauling for them, the manager said they just had to go with the other guy. it's a 165 mile run from owensboro and i've deadheaded down there more than once in the middle of the night in the last 3 1/2 years so the mill would not run out of hulls the next morning, and i lost the account for $25.75 / load:biggrin_25512:. NO LOYALTY OUT HERE RIGHT NOW.worst thing is the manager is my cousin !:biggrin_25513:

Sorry you lost the account but what happened to you seems the norm nowdays. Last some hauls this year also because of rate cutters. I have been hauling for them for 5 years. Hopefully comes back to bite them you know where because of service.

Thanks wheathauler, i don't want to sound like i'm:biggrin_2553::biggrin_25516::biggrin_2553::biggrin_25516:.i know this has happened to all of you folks too and i'm sure it will happen to me again,i have not been in this biz near as long as most of you,but i have been in buisness for myself since i got out of highschool and i have had a lot of folks undercut my rates in the past, whether it was selling alfalfa hay, corn,or holstein heifers at one time or another, just seems like it's getti'n a little worse in my part of the world. i guess i have been really fortunate that it is just starting round here lately.when i turned over the farming to my son and started runnin my hopper full time,i had one of the few hoppers in my area(50 mile radius or so) so i have been blessed to have stayed really busy, but i am start'n to see a lot of hoppers in and around lancaster, danville and stanford so i will just buckle down and keep truck'n,but i AINT GOING TO CUT RATES! i never sold hay, holstein hfs, for breakeven money either so thats my story and i'm sticking to it.:biggrin_2559: oh by the way, those same people came back and bought hay and holstein hfs. from us down the road without me having to lower my price, eventually. i may just be old school, but i think a man's word is still good for something in this o'l world. on a happier note,MY TANKS ARE CLEAN,NO MORE ALGEA,YEEHAW!THANKS FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP! stay warm, and be carefull.

I live in Owensboro and drove for Moorman for a while . I delivered DDG to Burkmann in Danville several times . If it wasn't for the farm the trucking company would have gone under in '04 when fuel prices went up . They managed to stick it out and benefited when a lot of their competition went under . They do a lot besides hoppers though . They pull a lot of trailers for Bakery Feeds and pull radioactive loads out of NJ . I don't know if they are still running tankers . They were hauling chicken fat from Griffin in TN and MS to feed mills but I think most chicken fat is going to biodiesel plants now .
