some are having real good luck with the motor mileage in the mid 6's d-16 has the exact same holset turbo as a ISX Cummins both motor's have known turbo issues blame holset or volvo for buying holsets instead of borg warner's

I had a salesman tell me that the new big Mack engine is really the same as the D-16. I'm glad I got an ISX in my 780, for the extra Cummins service network, on top of the small Volvo network, that usually has more limited hours than some dealerships.

MaxxForce 13 is mostly engineered by Mann, again, European!

Mack and volvo motors both come off the same line at Mack's old Hagerstown plant, and it was Mack's engineers that fixed some of Volvo's mess up's as in breaking cams the diffrence is some of the programs that Mack uses give better performance, and I would much rather have the Mack techs turning the wrench when something went wrong than the Volvo guys

ALL ENGINES HAVE European engineering because they are all sold there. We are all heading for a "world platform" at least volvo builds there engines in hagerstown in the US. your can replace the clutch without removing the motor mounts in all volvo products. I would say once you learn the layout and have the tools volvo engines are easier to work on. as for the rear gear train to handle the needed injection pressures and handle the vibration from those pressures it is likely all engines will be rear geartrain. have you ever seen a massive egr maxxforce engine installed in an international???? where do you start???

Yes some volvo's have engine mounts on the transmission. Western star even has a few like that. They are all still a pain to work on with the engine mounts for the rear being located on the transmission.

Rear gear trains are not need to handle the higher injection pressures. Cummins ISX 15 liter EPA 2010 has a front gear train assembly in them and the have the fuel pump mounted on the drivers side front of the engine. The Cummins ISX 11.9 liter EPA 2010 has a rear gear train because it is a totally different design. I can not answer your maxxforce question with a yes because I am a Cummins mechanic, not an international maxxforce mechanic. :biggrin_25523:

The internals of the holset turbo for a volvo or a Detriot diesel are both different than a Cummins turbo. Why would Cummins do a lot of research just to give Volvo or Detriot Diesel the information for free? Each manufacture has agreements with Holset and each one is different from the next.
