Thanks Rev. I feel like I've already worked for Schneider with all that information...LOL
But really thanks again. I haven't been hired yet, but I'm considering it. I would like to get a dedicated route going somewhere in the southeast. Where i could stop at my home in VA. and rest. Then get back on the road the next morning. Schneider seems cool for a big big tucking company. But who knows? The lady told me 32k in my first year while werner is 37-39K but, nothing is written in stone.

You know, USF Glen Moore was not mentioned here, and I'd certainly put them up against any of the aforementioned. They were great, particularly their Driver-Managers. Over all, the company was great and we had no complaints....after 3 1/2 years.

The first year will be low no matter where you go.

I posted this in another thread, Schneider will reimburse tuition if you got your CDL from another school providing you have a certificate from that school. They're paying me $200 a month for mine.

I'm a recent graduate with a CDL license...I received a job offer from both FedX and Werner....The FedX position does not involve driving a tractor trailer, no long haul, and you are paid per hour not per mile....If I drive with FedX it's obviously a reputable company. However, it still would not give me the tractor trailer experience I need....I suppose down the road I could ask about that but, this position is not for tractor trailers. Plenty of post have been written about the good and bad about Werner..But, you do learn how to drive a big rig and once you can handle a big truck you could work anywhere. Plus once you've acquired the expericence, you can make really good money.

However, it seems that within your first year of driving you don't make any more money going OTR than you would staying local...I'm leaning towards FedX but, I don't want to throw away the opportunity to learn how to drive a 18 wheeler....I'm just trying to get some guidance from some independent voices with expericence and not a school or job recuriter with an agenda....I interested in reading all comments so please respond thank you.

If you want screwed go with werner. Its almost a sure thing that will happen with them.
I'd go Fed Ex and try to move up.

As long as you aren't delivering small packages for them you will be ok. I have a friend here in maine that bought or rather leased purchased a delivery truck from and for fedex, hes trying to sell that truck now,he didn;t realize how hard the work was doing this,he is fiftyish and can't keep it up,doing that kind of work. If its truckload del with a small truck it would be better for you,or maybe you are in excellent shape at 32 and would like it. best of luck to you.

I agree with Brickman, go with FedEx and try working your way up. Sounds like it is local package delivery and you will be home every night with a guarenteed minimum pay and hourly with paid OT.

While working for FedEx start banking some of the money. If FedEx does not work out you can take the banked money and use it for a refresher course on driving TT's. Then you can pursue driving a TT.

Yeah thanks fellas...I was thinking the same thing.....A lot of post have scared me off of Werner or any of these big name trucking companies..I guess I feel like I'm being a "baby" because I'm a little nervous about going OTR....But, when I read a post like Brickman's I have to take it seriously because it seems to be an industry standard unfortunately....I went to a pretty decent driving school all things consider but, they lied about first year salaries..I will not make 50K with ANY of those companies my first year that's for sure....It's just that I've gained a great deal of respect for you 18 wheeler road warriors and a part of me is intriqued by joining the fraternity....It's a great accomplishment to successfully and safely drive a big rig cross state lines everyday. It's definately a "Man's Man Job". A BIG TIME RESPONSIBLITY!
