I won't be posting in this thread anymore since I won't be receiving the 30 day training from WS. I will, however, start a new thread for my 10 day orientation experience once I get to that stage.
I have started a new thread in the Trucking Schools area that will detail my trials and tribulations during training with United Truck Driving School. You can find that thread here: http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/trucking-schools/97450-united-truck-school-socal-my-training.html#post1143360
Thanks to all who stopped by here and visited with me. See you all in the other thread. -
Keep it here! It's a related anyways since you still have a job with WS and shows the changes that you have experianced with out it being shotgunned all over the forum.

Well, since you all want me to keep it here...I guess I can have the admins delete the other thread.... So, in it's entirety, here is my original post from my other thread, and I will continue on from here with my training with United Truck Driving School
So, for those that don't know my story, here is the short version: I was accepted for the 30 day training program at Watkins Shepard in Montana. I then get a call telling me that the school has been "suspended for an indefinite period due to economic reasons". My only other choice without having to go with one of the mega companies' mills was a school here in Southern California called United Truck Driving School. Coincidentally, this is the school that my recruiter from WS recommended to me as well. She called them on my behalf to let them know I was coming their direction, then I was called by a recruiter from the school, Dennis within 10 minutes.
I spoke with him for a few minutes and I've been trying to decide exactly when to get started, as I have a family obligation around the first of the year that I need to attend to.
I already have my DOT medical so they will give me a discount for that, as well as a discount for paying all upfront, which I was gonna do anyways at WS. So, already I'm almost $500 ahead!
It is a 160 hour course over the course of 4 weeks. I probably won't get as much behind the wheel as I would have with WS, but I have to roll with the changes.
I'm looking at either going to the Jan 18th class or the Feb 1st class. The classroom training is not too far from my home, but for the rest of the class, I have to drive about 30-45 minutes away to their practice range. No biggie to me....Last edited: Dec 15, 2009

Ok, so I am all set to go to the CDL school starting on January 18. I have a slot for the 10 day training for WS on Feb 15... So glad I have firm dates now. Missoula, here I come!
JustSonny Thanks this. -
Just want to add that I have now called the school and am now "officially" enrolled in the January 18 class. I am going to the recruiter on Tuesday and fill out the paperwork and give him my money.....so it's finally getting real to me!
JustSonny Thanks this. -

Good Luck! Your first year or 2 will be fun as it will be a new "endeavour",after that its just like...blah! Wish you were home, no life.Still has its moments tho,I didnt do it for but 2 yrs so I wouldnt know after that. BTW the dispatchers are some of the most well mannered and respectful people you will ever know--lol, ya right . Dependin on who your drivin for/what you haul or if ur on a dedicated account it's not just hook up and hmrdwn to cali, can be alot of runnin around like a chicken with its head cut off/2 er 3 diff lds a day sometimes. Think the longest I got was from nola->cheyenne then denver->gulfport. Most lds I think was 5, of course the compny I wrkd at we got 50min trip pay so it wasnt too bad..think they called it flexpay er somethin
