Disclaimer, I'm not old but not new, in my 4th year as owner op.

It will most likely be a Mack or Volvo.

Here are some things I'm kicking around that I haven't researched yet.

How much will my insurance go up on a new truck vs. the $50k value 6 year old truck I have now? I'm paying Progressive around $10k a year, based in TN.

What other things will go up, besides having a note of course? IRP? What else?

The insurance you are referring to is liability I am guessing, not comprehensive and collision which is also required on any truck that is financed.
The $10k number has to be for liability, which shouldn't change, and might go down if you buy a brand new truck with all the bells and whistles favored by the insurance industry, lane departure, and braking systems. You agent can quote you for that.
the comp and collision coverage is directly pegged to the "book" or market value of the truck at the time of the loss. So a new truck, $175,000 might have an annual premium of , I am guessing here, $4000 year, a truck that is 6 years old and worth $50K, the premium for that coverage might be $2000 year.
Again, your agent can give you firm numbers easily.
I don't think anything changes outside of the costs of operation of the truck itself. Maintenance might go down dramatically for the first several years, then explode or not, all depending on the reliability of the emissions systems, which are getting better and better with every model year. Fuel mileage might be better than what you are getting now.

Truck insurance doesn’t work that way. $10k is probably what he’s paying for everything.

Only thing that will go up is your profitability with a new truck. Why not a 680 KW?

Btw IMO you could get a new KW for 150k without the nanny stuff. I doubt insurance would change much. With duel you need something that can get mpg and be reliable. Especially with parts shortages happening.

Well, I guess I'm just a Volvo guy. You either love em or hate em it seems. I love the space, the quiet ride, the layout. I have never been on the side of the road in my Volvo except when I ran it out of fuel. The big heavy beast gets 7.5 mpg with 500/1750 tune and I have a great mechanic.

I will look at other trucks but I just don't know if I would be swayed. I'm told a spec'd out Volvo will be about 160. Haven't learned much about Mack just yet. They are almost the same truck but lighter.

I don’t blame you a bit. I had three reefers finally come online today. I have the two 680’s building in August. I was just thinking today if maybe I should place truck and trailer orders now for next year.

What kind of timeframes are you seeing on truck orders? I haven't gotten that answer from any builders yet.

Depending who you call, I need 2 567’s to be built and most dealers are telling me they will start in March 2022.

I found 1 guy who could possibly squeeze these trucks in to arrive to me October / December of this year.
