I’m sick of wearing my mask all day in the heat, cab, office, and customers. I can’t stand what has happened over the last year in half and need to get my own truck or get another Job. I have flatbed, tanker, and reefer experience and I live in the Baton Rouge area. I have good credit and about 25k saved but don’t know where to start. Any advice ?
I’ve been a company driver for 8 years

If you already have a truck in fantastic shape and have paid all your taxes, 2290 plates etc. insurance, 25 K should be doable as a working expense for fuel and maintenance and a few unseen. If the truck does not have a warranty. 25K won’t go far for a big tow bill and overhaul and continuing operating expenses after repairs.

It would be a lot easier to just toss the face diaper in the trash and get a better job. Make a stand!
I like manuals, feldsforever, Midwest Trucker and 1 other person Thank this. -
Classic situation. Having their own truck simply HAS to be better,,,WRONG! It's natural to think being on your own will solve all your problems, and in a way, they do. While you won't have as much "company" interaction, a whole new set of problems will confront you, stuff you never dreamed about as a company driver. So many jobs today for a person like you, don't ruin it by buying your own. Remember, Monty Burns was right,,,"Family, friends, religion,,,these are the 3 demons you must slay to be successful in business". It's the best feeling, writing up a problem on your company truck over the weekend, and it's ready to go on Monday while you took the family to the ballgame.

you carrying a plague?FearTheCorn and feldsforever Thank this. -
I was a company driver 4 month only. After simple calculation I figured out that I will get 0.7-0.8$/mile instead 0.45 and I leased the truck.
6 month later bought my first truck. For cash, because nobody want to finance me with 10 month CDL.
It was hard and cost me a lot but I always made more money than a company driver.feldsforever and shatteredsquare Thank this. -
I love driving this truck. Ill never give it up. I don't do stocks, bitcoin or realestate. I don't work a normal 9-5. I don't paint, roof, or flip burgers. I don't want to own a huge company or tell people what to do.
8 years in any industry is a long time. I would switch jobs.( not industry) And spend a honest good long while thinking about it. Its your choice. Just make a solid decision. But yeah. Having to where the mask in the truck. I would be gone awhile go, no offense.I like manuals Thanks this.
