I have an 2018 x15 pre fleet truck. I’m looking for options on a solid PM schedule. I’ve listened to a couple of guys swear by a 10,000 mile oil change and grease. But what about 20,000 mile full synthetic schedule? I can afford either but full synthetic oil to me just seems better. What say you? If I do go full synthetic every 20,000 should I change the fuel filter at every 10,000?

Get oil samples. Let those determine your schedule. Every truck and situation is a little diffrent.

As for full vs synthetic ive always used synthetic in every vehicle. It typically has better lubricateing propertys in general and is a small and overall cheap insurance against wear.

    Whats the application?

For line haul I would recommend 40k oil. Grease chassis and fuel filters every 20k. High idle time will be less.

Vocational or severe duty is way less and often done by hours.

Oil sampling is the only way to know the life left of the oil. Way too many variables.

I used to be a proponent of 10k OCI, but now believe 20k-25k with conventional oil is just fine. Oil today is much better than it was 20-30 years ago. Some go much longer with good results but I like clean oil. As for synthetic, it seems like most manuals I've read state that it does not prolong the change interval. I think the main benefit is easier starting in the cold.

With a Davco, you never have to wonder about when to change the fuel filter.

Get oil samples if you plan on going over 12k. Synthetic might be the way to go on oil. Reasoning is most ISX15's an X15's are he77 on oil. Runs way hot. Like 235+. Would definately test it though. 40,000 oil changes will have you replacing cam fairly regularly. At least from what I have seen and been told you sure don't want to cheap out on the oil in a newer Cummins. Ridiculous what it costs just for the filter....

I have no experience with the x15, maybe they are a different animal. I drive an ISX with 900k on it, all original except the turbo and water pump. When I first got in it the oil looked awful. I did a couple of short oil changes to clean it up. Now the oil still looks pretty clean at 12k, doesn't start to look dark black until 20k-25k.

I have a 2018 x15 performance in a 2019 peterbilt. I change mine religiously at 15k and run an oil bypass filter as well. I run shell t4. I've been told many times the synthetic is too thin for the heads. I know a guy who did this and his engine is a million miles before he had to his overhaul. So that's what I'm doing. Only 140k so far. But no problems. YET
