Pulled Lookout Pass this morning. Steeper than Snoqualmie. Still same speed and gear, but I had to keep it pinned almost the whole way up. Came down in 9th and had to use my brakes twice. Poor West Texas oilfield truck is hating life!

And it did. I'm finally nestled safe in Wyoming. Burned 3/4 tank in 652 miles. For context.... that's more than normal. o_O

Thats the worst part of running the northwest. Burn a #### ton of fuel and it costs alot too

And I don't think WEX FleetOne has good coverage up here. 3 out of 4 of my last fuel ups were Love's, Love's, and PFJ. And honestly reasonable, compared to everywhere else. I'm used to them being about 80 cents higher. They were the cheapest on the app. Never paid over $3.30

apples and oranges for equipment and loads, but you know that.

Ive never been west: is there only one hill a truck would lose time on?

I can’t say I would willingly step back to a lower powered unit, regardless of what I might be toting. I got enough going on in life I don’t need to preplan a hillclimb.

my point is the cumulative time lost climbing grades is a fairly insignificant total when looked at on a multi day trip. There are soo many factors that come in to play - slow traffic/parking availability/appointment times/unloading windows(day bs night) just to name a few. Trucking is not a pipeline where you can put a load in one end and predict exactly when it will come out the other end.

yes, I know that what I do does not apply to a general freight scenario but I have planned a lot of loads across many trips. My point wasn’t that tons of power is useless.

I would love a euro truck with 800 hp and 3000 lb-ft of torque to climb hills at 25 mph ….

My point was it most likely has little or no actual bearing on income.
Could you have everything work perfectly and deliver a day early on a 2500 mile trip? Sure but I would bet it happens less than 50% of the time. Then you would also need to have the next load available at exactly the right time to take advantage of that window.
