I honestly don't know for sure one way or the other. I do know that the very nature of an RF chip is a tag. I don't know of any other method to see tire pressure other than a TPM system. DOT can see tire temps using infrared sensors!
Things on a truck a cop would look at for a random inspection?

You can find this article from early 2017. After reading it, I'm gonna say that officer from OHP was honest.

Now that being said, TPMS does operate with RF. So if you have TPMS, they could be able to scan it. But TPMS and RFID are two separate things.Bean Jr., RocketScott, nredfor88 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Says in that article "new measurement devices allow for faster and more accurate readings"

Simple quote from Google
" to measure air pressure in tires. ... In addition, Farsens offers the Vortex1, an ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) RFID sensor tag designed to monitor pressure in sealed places without the need for batteries or wires." -

You guys ever heard of an embedded tag that can be scanned for PSI? I'm only 95% sure of what I'm saying, and I don't want to spread misinformation. Who knows what latest tech has come out recently. I figure three mechanics, two guys that know a lot about tires, and two fleet owners could shed some light?Bean Jr. and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
