I have been noticing that the people that keep the straps on winches are in an out of shippers and receivers much quicker than I am with having them rolled up inside my box.Was thinking of leaving them on the winches this week and seeing how it goes.I know that people can get hit by the hook but if I look under the trailer before I throw or yell out that the strap is going over it will mitigate the issue somewhat. What do y’all think?

Ever notice how you see so many of those type trucks have all of their straps flapping while going down the load? Do what you like, but be mindful of your straps possibly loosening while you travel.

If you must , get a winch bar, cut it down to 1 foot, wrap the hook end, dont just have it vertically. and *snug* down the winch with your short bar. Then push the winch backwards if theres any play.
Theres more reasons i dislike straps staying on winches, but i will say that with practice, you should be just as fast throwing them fresh each time as most guys are at using from winches, i know im between 10 minutes faster to 10 minutes slower than them on the average.ProfessionalNoticer, Dadetrucking305 and God prefers Diesels Thank this. -
I think the more of the strap you have rolled on your winch, the more likely your strap is to loosen. Have no idea if they do, just something I thought.
I worry more about how much time it takes to roll them up. I use a cordless drill with a rubber handled screwdriver to roll mine up.kylefitzy, Dadetrucking305, Kyle G. and 1 other person Thank this. -
I carried two sets of straps one 30’ the other cut down to probably 20’ that I used for the shorter loads. Between having less strap to deal with and developing a system I was just as fast and sometimes faster without getting in a hurry than those who left the straps on the trailer. Throwing hooks can also damage the trailer and load.

Only practical for those who do the same thing day after day imo. 2-3 shingle/wood loads running local is where it helps

Wet straps on winches causes them to rust.

Angle drill works better than a regular drill .cke, Dadetrucking305 and Big Road Skateboard Thank this. -
