$1000 weekly guaranteed pay+" offer question (Aug 2021)

I'm investigating Swift as a possible starter company. Their website states "$1000 weekly guaranteed pay+" as of August 2021. Since Swift is a huge company with plenty of cargo to haul (from what I hear), I figured it was easy to make that weekly. I know you have to be available 5 days a week and be willing to work as directed.

Does anyone have any feedback and experience on this "guaranteed pay" they are advertising?

 

Naturally, you can't work 7 days a week 24 hours a day. I expect that I would be driving up to the legal, daily limits with 10 hours off clock for rest, and 34 hour resets after 70 hours worked. The work doesn't bother me, because you're not making money if your aren't moving. The problem with research is that you find good and bad in everything. I read them both. It's been said many times that people are more likely to post negative reviews about something rather than positive.

One thing everyone seems to agree with is that all Mega carriers are basically bad, but they are a good place to start a career if you have no experience. Not one of them is "ideal". Either you get paid more cpm but get less miles, get paid less cpm but get more miles, bad/good dispatchers, bad/good fleet managers, new/junk equipment, apu/no apu, inverter/no inverter, good/bad training, and the list goes on.

 

1500/wk as a new driver?

Trying to find the "fine print" is not exactly easy. I've been digging all through Swift's site (and the mobile is different from the full site) to find out the specific Terms and Conditions. Yes, I can always ask a recruiter but you can only take what they say with a grain of salt.

Originally I was thinking of joining Roehl, but I have to pay out of pocket to fly out there and find a means of transport from the hotel to the training facility. I also don't like the $7000 school "threat" hanging over me. Should anything go wrong, whether it is my fault or not, they'll slap me with that $7000 bill. I've also seen people say that the closer they get to fulfilling their contract, the harder Roehl makes it for them to complete it (such as giving less miles than when they first started).

Swift is closer to me, offers that $1000 guaranteed weekly pay, and has a Veteran's CDL Scholarship. They are also a bigger company with more freight and more options. They also deliver across the 48 states, Mexico, and Canada.

With Knight Transportation, I've heard the equipment is bad and they have no APU's. They are also part of Swift.

Prime Inc. seems to have a better review by people, but again... not perfect. I think I see more people talking about Lease Operators there, if anything.

Wilson Logistics will pay to get me up to Montana for training. However, there is no paid training, and I've read that you don't start getting paid until you are solo. The starting pay is pretty crappy compared to others, but slowly gets better over time. They also only deliver to the Western States. (I prefer to be open to 48.)

I haven't looked at Schneider, Werner, CR England, or others yet. Again, I read good and bad things about all of them.

 

Thanks. I've heard this too. My brother-in-law even suggested it, because they are one of the largest trucking companies and will always have the freight to keep you busy. I think since there are so many drivers with Swift, there just happens to be more people complaining about it. It's all relative.

I already have my medical certificate, will be testing for my CLP soon, and I'm in the process of getting my paperwork together for their Veteran's CDL Scholarship.
