I think the problem with this thread is some drivers just don't like company drivers, so they blame their own financial worries on company drivers.
Rates are low because of company drivers. I heard that my whole career and it never changes.
I don't drive based on what the rates are; I drive based on what the company pay structure is and if that will provide what I consider a comfortable lifestyle. I was always able to find that as a company driver by choosing carefully which company I drive for.
I don't have to deal with brokers or rates. Never have to ask a company what the load pays.
Couldn't care less and only care about how much money I'll make each week.
If every driver became an 0/0 then rates would really plummet.
Gonna be fun to watch the Megas

If we could bump that up to about $10000 a month I might give it a thought or two.

Most folks can qualify for benefits of some sort for at least 3 months to care for a family member. The proposal will likely get dumped. Possibly political grand standing.

Midwest Trucker Thanks this.

One time an ignorant company driver told me he refuses to haul cheap freight. I think he was a coffee counter BSer.
How would he even know what the load pays and why would he care?ProfessionalNoticer and Midwest Trucker Thank this. -
Got proof, or is this just ######-stirring by some windbag on the radio that is the gospel truth, just like always?

Only like 3% of those who get their CDL are still out driving five years later. Megas Entire business model is centered around recruiting. It is the number one factor for their business. They are a recruiting company first before even a trucking company. It’s disgusting but that’s the business model that works for them. Bring them in new when they’re young and dumb, pay them cheap, hope they don’t kill anybody for six months to a year and move onto the next batch.
bzinger Thanks this. -
What more proof do you need?
Actually, what proof would you accept?
Because face it, every side has their own 'proof' of whatever they are saying.
If you listen long enough to any side of any issue, they will convince you that they have the proof and that they are right.
And it will be convincing from any of them.
And it really matters to all of them that they grab your attention long enough to keep you engaged long enough to convince you.
May you live in interesting times...
And we have that today, in abundance.
Never knowing if anything is true because there are SO many sources out there with differing viewpoints, differing facts and differing proofs.
Yet...
"Frederic René Coudert Jr. also recounts having heard the phrase at the time:
Some years ago, in 1936, I had to write to a very dear and honoured friend of mine, who has since died, Sir Austen Chamberlain, brother of the present Prime Minister, and I concluded my letter with a rather banal remark "that we were living in an interesting age". Evidently he read the whole letter, because by return mail he wrote to me and concluded as follows: "Many years ago I learned from one of our diplomats in China that one of the principal Chinese curses heaped upon an enemy is, 'May you live in an interesting age.'" "Surely", he said, "no age has been more fraught with insecurity than our own present time." That was three years ago.[7]"
We may live in interesting times, but it is far from unique in history.
