You are right about those others, but I live 2.5 hours from kc.. so that's the contributing reason why I narrowed it down

dude. its a great company. driver centric. very very smart ownership. well maintained equipment.

only layoffs I have heard of in our history has been during 08 and furloughs last year for 6 weeks then part of another 6 week cycle before we had to call everyone back.

The only reason to go with YRC is insurance. You're not even going to be working there long enough to get vested into the pension, so any money they put into that is a waste. It takes 20 years to reach the five pension credit years that get you vested.

Dayton, I'm rather high on in general. Well-run, I believe guys are home daily, and good pay with weekends off.

...but you live 2.5 hours out of town, so home daily may not work for you.

Me personally? For your situation? I'd try to get 10, MAYBE 15 years into the union with great insurance, which would mean ABF most likely. But that's me. I'm pension-minded.

YRC is only contributing 25% to the pension, so four years equals one pension year. Takes a full 20 years to get vested in the pension, which works out in general terms to ~$500 per month. So that may not work for you, unless you plan on working until your mid-70s.

The problem with ABF is it won’t work for his situation, living that far away. From what I remember from my friend that works there, they only give you a 2hr notice for your start time, and you only stay out for 3 days max.

@chiefsfan66 Theres nothing wrong with taking that YRC job or trying out Fx Ground if that’s what you really want to do. But honestly I’m kind of surprised you can’t find anything closer to home. I’ve been trying to think of what area is that far from KC without any other closer options, and I’m coming up with nothing. Unless there’s just flat out no one hiring in your town.
