I had an instructor tell us to leave BOL on drivers seat when told to bring paperwork inside the scalehouse when you are pulling a placarded load. Not sure if this is considered messing with Sasquatch. I’m sure he is technically correct but was wondering if its common practice.

I've never heard this. I basically have two copies when I leave a shipper. One goes in my trucks permit/hazmat binder with the BOL physically inserted in the ERG at the correct ID#. This binder stays in my drivers side door.
The other BOL is my copy and it stays with my paperwork, TRANSFLO, etc....
If I have a third copy or have time to make one, I place it in the trailers doc holder.
If I get called in, I bring the binder in my drivers door with me.
BTW, unless you already have it, here's a good link to always have on your phone.

- If the driver leaves the truck the paperwork must be on the driver's seat or in the driver's door pouch.
- When inspected the driver must great the inspecting officer with the paperwork in hand.
We also had a driver climb out of the truck and stand by the truck waiting for the officer to come out. The driver was cited for not greeting the inspecting officer with 'paperwork in hand', despite the paperwork was sitting on the driver's seat 3 feet away.
Most officers won't pull this mickey mouse crud, but you never know which officer is going to nail you to the wall just because he can. -
At which scale house(s) did those two incidents occur?

Ok guys. Hazmat load and you leave the paperwork on the drivers seat, now I'm going into ? Whatever, truck stop or restaurant or hotel whatever it might be.
Paperwork is on drivers seat but I lock my doors. What matter does it make? The Bols are there but my doors are locked.
Been tanking for almost 10 yrs
I've never had a problem
BUT,What's the law on thisbzinger, tscottme and Roberts450 Thank this. -
In addition to all of the hazmat cleanup you are now responsible for unleashing an unholy enitity on the world. Your wife will divorce you, your dog will bite you, and the pull tab will break off every can of soda you try to open.
At least that's the theory.BigRedSA, joshuapowell61, brian991219 and 19 others Thank this. -
@gentleroger you’re to easy on the guy. It should have been beer can not soda can. Otherwise that’s pretty much spot on what will happen.
Oxbow Thanks this. -

Any hazmat load that BOL has to be left in the truck, always. If hauling waste, there's an entire manifest of paperwork left in the truck and only the washbay lead may remove it.
4wayflashers Thanks this.
