Why are records required to be kept by the Carrier so A Dot Auditor can check them. You are missing a great opportunity as a Consultant. Carriers hire people like You . Attorneys will hire You .

So when my maintenance department does an inspection. I'm out of compliance?

Should you do a pre sure. The law doesn't say you have to. Your company may say you have to.

That's because its wrong. That is NOT the regulation. That's someone's summary.

    ZVar posted the actual regulation.

Because the DOT requires that your logbooks be kept for a certain period of time. This does not mean a pretrip inspection is required. There are a hell of a lot of things they look for that have nothing to do with a pretrip. . He's looking for abuse of PC, flat out logbook violations like running past your HOS, falsifying logs like fueling off duty, etc. He can't say "You didn't do a pre trip on this day." All you have to do is show him the regulation posted and state driver was satisfied with the equipment condition. You can also say another driver did the pre trip. Nowhere does it say that another driver can't do it. Hell it doesn't say a driver must do it at all. Auditors can't enforce laws that don't exist.

You don't seem to understand. If the LAW, the ACTUAL WORDING OF THE LAW, does not specify how something must be done then it can be done any way the driver wants. You are ASSUMING it means a pre trip. You know what they say when you assume, right?

Now, to be clear, I'm not saying that one shouldn't do a pre trip. I'm simply stating that the law doesn't MANDATE it.

In your world, it doesn't exit. In the real trucking world it does.

There is only one world and in it there is no requirement by FMCSA for a driver to do an inspection. It would be nice if you could either learn to read or simply stop showing everyone how you are being so willfully ignorant.

You are Ignorant if you think you are right. You are also dangerous, you are telling drivers they don't have to inspect their equipment. That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. You sir are Wrong.

Does the DOT requirement that i carry a set of white sheets in the sleeper say whether they have to be 300 thread count or 600 thread count?
    Is Egyptian cotton acceptable?

Once again, your lack of reading comprehension is showing. No has ever said that a driver shouldn't do one. We have stated the regulations, as written, do not require the driver to do it. When you understand the difference, maybe you'll stop arguing.
