Windows 11

Love them or hate them at some point a MS operating system is at some point going to be trouble. I know a gentleman that still runs an old Compaq desktop that runs XP. Can't update to the newer browsers. At least 10% of the websites he goes to are no longer formatted for them. I started noticing this message on the Dexcom follow website I use about a month ago.



Right up at the top, no longer supporting Win 7. I agree with @snowwy about the updates with regard to Windows 10. Outside of this, I have run Windows 10 now since around 2015. My computers have run great and one thing I really like about Windows 10 is they support most hardware simply plug and play! Windows 7 and ALL the preceding OSs would not do that! In closing, I HIGHLY recommend anyone that is planning to buy a new non-Windows 11 OEM system to do so quickly. Windows 11 will soon be on the OEMs.

 

I used to help manage several websites. Also did some coding in support of them. I absolutely had to maintain good solid systems. I also used to use Linux. In fact, the main computer I used even when still driving was Linux. Linux is really not a primary competitor to windows. That honor goes to Apple. Over the last 36 months, I had to stop working online as my health was failing. My right-hand shakes so much at times I can't even type. I don't get into these arguments over who is doing it the correct way. As I have stated in the tablet thread I am an ios person with regard to my smartphone and my tablet. I stopped using Linux last year because it was beginning to be difficult with the terminal commands and the "switches" and not mess something up. So I'm mainly a Windows person and I am happy! Your mileage may vary!

 

I use this on my laptop. It is as advertised. However, unless you are part of a larger organization that is enterprise deploying this OS you can't legally use it that way. You can use it un-activated of course, but can't tweak the OS. Yes, there are bypasses to illegally activate this OS, but some of these bypasses can create problems with some antiviral software. I suggest unless you have a genuine need to use Windows 10 Enterprise to stick to the retail versions.

Just to make it clear, I own my laptop but I still do some work on it for the company that "activated" my OS. I will soon be retiring that laptop, when I do I will reinstall Windows 8 pro back on it.

 

Let me clarify my last comment a bit! I was wrong about the legal use of LTSC version being used on a home PC. It is legal, but unless you are really knowledgeable at setting up Enterprise and have a lot more $$ to spend I highly recommend sticking to the retail versions. Let me give an example. One VERY important aspect of updates is the security updates. Today it is not much of an issue, but several years ago at least once a month the Internet Storm center was finding malware all over 10. Maybe one in 50 of these bugs was considered critical enough that MS would deploy a fix so important it was not part of their normal patch cycle. If you are using LTSC MS is not going to patch your system. It will be up to you to deploy. I know of a guy in Texas that failed to fix a rather nasty bug in his ATMs OS and the malware infected them. The point I am making is while MS does intrude with these updates, the average home user NEEDS these critical updates.
