Thanks patriot! That makes me feel better!

Do you know of any carriers that you feel are 'dirt bag' carriers?

The bottom line is only the safest drivers and companies that keep well maintained equipment are going to be on the road. Whether its a 18 wheeler, dump truck or 6 wheeler, the same will apply. If you currently work for a company that gives you problems maintaining their equipment, you might as well look for a better company.

You work for the company, has everything to do with you. I think you are going to see companies starting a better maintains plan.

At some point even the big dirt bag companies are going to have to take better care of the equipment. Will it happen over night, no I don't think so.

Will drivers be changed by this overnight, yes. It still comes down to the driver is the last one to say the truck is safe.

Big money, lobbytist and politicians. 17 year vet with 2mil miles safer then 17day rookie with 1700 miles?

Actually the 17 year vet is worse off than the 17 day "wonder" just out of school. Think about this, how easy is being caught for speeding is? Or how easy being it is being charged with a headlight out? Think! I was coming up thru Va. on hwy 29 one nite when a headlight went out, there is no where to buy a headlight on 29, get to Lynchburg and they were having a DUI check on 29. DOT was there also. I got wrote up with a headlight being out. Now tell me if I could have prevented that? You want me to stop and call a road service vendor just to replace a headlight. How many 4-wheelers have you seen running up and down the road with lights out?

This whole concept of CSA2010 is nothing more than a "sham" against drivers. It is only a way to ease the burden of "safety"(I use the term loosely) from the company to the drivers. Like everything else, the driver will be found at fault.

I think it is a way to keep the mills in biz.
It may take swift driver 2 years to get a violation and like u said, sometimes you cant help it but none the less its gonna be on your "safety rating" record, and how many times you think "sht happens" to someone over the course of 15-20 yrs. If you ask me the big trainer companys have got to be behind this.or not. but its possible. Bottom line, they can write you a ticket if they wanna look hard enough. These mega carriers
are behind all this, thats my conspiracy theory.lol

Doesnt the gov screw everything up that they stick their big noses into?

As an outsider waiting to get inside, and stay inside, I find that my highest priority in deciding which companies to approach about hiring me has changed. A company's safety record has been in my mind ever since I began evaluating my fitness and aptitude to be a driver. (I actually started a thread a couple of months ago asking which company was the safest.) A company's safety record has now become first and foremost. I guess it should have been first and foremost all along, right? Why would I want to work for a company that teeters on the brink of an "unfit" rating? Why would any driver, newbie OR veteran?

Just an observation: I see the industry about to really start "purging from within". Companies dumping drivers who have proven, time and time again, to be unprofessional AND drivers dumping companies for the same reason. Possible end result: Professional drivers flocking to "safety driven" companies.

Another observation: If the above happens, the "safety-driven" companies will be in position to pay drivers less under the guise of having to spend lots of money to maintain their positions as safe companies. Now we have to hope for companies that are both safe AND scrupulous. Maybe the two characteristics will just naturally fall in step. I wonder...

I always thought of a head light as a driver replaceable item, I always had two in the side box. Anytime I used one, I would replace it next time I went throught the shop.

Don't you carry extra items for the truck and trailer?

Even so you still have someplace to pull over to change it. I've been on plenty of roads that no place to pull off for 60 miles or more.

Yeah, but if you have one at least you can say I keep extra bulbs, the headlight went out on me back there and I did not have a safe place to pull over and change it, but I will as soon as I can stop. Might get you out of a ticket and might not, but by not having one it just increased your odds for a ticket.
