Several of those you mention offer signing bonuses. And all of who you name are struggling with the same issue.

I see car haulers all day on I-5 and at the truck stop. Just looking at their trailers makes me nervous. And that’s from a guy hauling a fuel tanker! Just thinking about loading/unloading those vehicles in the rain makes me wanna go home and curl up in bed. Props to y’all.

Coming up on my 1 year mark, I'm already making better than 80k/yr.
Spoke with a company offering 100k/yr this week, doing the same thing I do now, but it's night shift.
Company just sent me to chemical school, so I can pull both gas cans and chemical tankers.
Talk about easy money!
Arrive at the shipper, I'm loaded within an hour, and they do the loading while I sit in the cab.
They hand me the paperwork, I verify it, and motor down the road to the receiver.
Receiver shows me where to unload, I park it, they offload me, again I sit in the truck while they do the work.
Hardest thing I deal with is tank slosh.Another Canadian driver and HiramKingWilliams Thank this. -

Truckers are human, they see, hear and follow trends just like everyone else. They want more time in their kid's life, they want to be more healthy, they want time to pursue hobbies, and they want to enjoy life a little.
You say it's work ethic, but turn on Netflix, it's more cultural than anything else.Another Canadian driver, MrCompton734 and HiramKingWilliams Thank this. -

I say it's wage and benefits. There are local freight jobs, no touch paying $30/hr with no shortage of work. Or another company I saw offers $400/day dedicated route home daily no touch freight. If I can make $104k a year doing no touch freight, 5 days a week, home daily, what does car haul have to offer me? Car hauling is difficult at times and nearly impossible in some weather conditions with high risk to your bonuses from road damages. If you really wanted more money, 6 days a week would put you at $124k/year home daily with one of those no-touch freight companies.Another Canadian driver and HiramKingWilliams Thank this.
