    You are thinking wrong. You have to reduce that month to a day for it to mean nothing. This is a one full tank of fuel. ;)

    I got hassled about this a couple years ago (when they were still doing the paper copy of the permit), got pulled into the coop because the dingus inside screwed something up.

    Was a company driver, and the DOT clown started reading me the riot act about the fine for not having the permit being assigned to me, the driver, and not the company. Didn't even let me say a word before that bullcrap started, and continued with "It's your job as the driver to make sure your permits are all up to date"

    Boy did he shut his stupid mouth real quick when I produced the permit for him.

    Technically that's right. You, the driver, are responsible for having the correct permits and whatnot for where you operate. You're the one that was behind the wheel when the truck entered Oregon.

    I gather from your comments, the reality is: you were led to believe you were good. And had no way to verify it other than head on in there. So you've actually done nothing wrong, but still get the ticket.

    The reason they do this instead of making it a carrier violation on the inspection form, is to hang it on a person who will have greater incentive to get it resolved. At least that's the best I can figure.

    Now you are stuck in the middle, counting on the good faith of your employer to settle it with respect to you. The way that should look is: carrier pays the fine immediately and then goes to fight it if they choose to. In that case, the driver is off the hook immediately, and the carrier gets a refund if they successfully make their case.

    Unfortunately the risk to the driver is: carrier refuses to pay in hopes of winning a protest, and the driver has no visibility to what's going on since he's a 3rd party at this point. Until one day you pull into an inspection and discover your license is suspended from Oregon, on a failure to appear charge.

    You should insist that your boss pay the fine immediately, and send you the receipt. Then if he wants to fight for a refund, you are no longer a part of that.

    #### these days that might not even fill your truck up!! I saw fuel went up a little this week. I stopped in Waynesville, NC the other day, and I was low on fuel. It took nearly 700 bucks to fill the truck ($531), DEF($30), and reefer($90). I just looked with amazement and counted my blessings that I am a company driver lololol

    No the defendant is the carrier.

    You can’t purchase a permit for you, the permit is for the carrier who has to purchase the permit to operate within the state.

    Your name is not on the permit anywhere, it is a blanket permit for all legal drivers under the authority to operate as interstate transporters.

    The carrier is supposed to take care of this, the ticket is in your name as the contact person for the carrier - employee - and they need to step up and take care of it.

    What Red said is spot on. The driver is responsible for making sure permits are up to date before entering a state. Oregon is very simple. Pay the annual permit fee, get a $2,000 bond, and file monthly/quarterly mileage reports regardless of if you entered the state or not. If you skip one of those steps the permit isn't valid and you're subject to a fine when you enter the state. Sounds like your boss didn't follow the rules and you as the driver are paying the price. These are basically the same requirements to drive through Kentucky and New Mexico. If you don't like the rules, don't drive there.

    None of that matters as it's not the carrier driving the truck illegally. It's the driver.
    If there is no permit then he can't be there and yet he drove there.

    Should the carrier take care of paperwork issues? Sure. Is it the drivers responsibility to make sure it's correct? Of course. It's no different than making sure the permit book has the correct regi6 and insurance.

    I think the OP is talking about the Oregon Weight Cab Card. It costs $8 per year and is truck specific. It is all electronic now, so even if you have a copy in your permit book and produce it to the scale/inspector, there's no way to know if some ####### canceled it by mistake!
    Ask me how I know?
    My ticket was $447. Yes, my company paid it but that was sofa king stupid!

    Been driving in Oregon every week for years and have never had an Oregon weight cab card. My permit is filed and paid online and I file my monthly mileage reports. That's it that I'm aware of.
