Thanks. That's a good tip. I'm actually planning to get back out on the road after being away for about 6-7 years and am definitely planning to use the satellite view in Google maps on my laptop.
Best GPS for trucking. Which one do you have/like?

I'm running a Garmin dezl OTR800, #### expensive but has been overall good. I'm a fan of the lane assist, tried the otr700 but liked the bigger model for better mounting system and size.

I used copilot
Set it correctly and the atlas was never used.
It didn't like California much though.
And if your device fails. A new one is somewhat cheap but the app stays with you. No repurchase required. -
RedForeman, feldsforever and scottied67 Thank this.

99.9 % of the time I use a atlas from city to city. And Google maps in my head set around town.
Just have to keep my eyes and ears open for non truck routes. Low bridges and Google maps always want to use the front door. Even if the shipper/receiver is a different address. -

I've used Garmin Dezl for about 10 yrs, here's the problem with them, software updates are often a joke. My current model is about 5 yrs old, it will no longer update, the software says it's ready to update, but it simply won't I've tried it via Wi-Fi and I've brought it home and hooked it up to my computer, I've talked to Garmin, it simply won't update. The last suggestion from Garmin was a hard reset, but that would require I back up my address history to an SD card (I've got several addresses that are actually GPS coordinates), doing a hard reset, and then putting them back in. Odd-ball addresses, it's simply worthless, I get a lot of customers that are in newer areas, or in the middle of nowhere, it can't find the address, even addresses that have been there for decades it sometimes can't find, or it tells me it's in the wrong city.
Typically, if Garmin can't find it, I end up searching it out on Google maps, finding the closest address that my Garmin will recognize, then working from there.tscottme Thanks this. -

Seriously. The cross-referencing between sources is a good way to build a driver's geographic memory. It forces one to spatially orientate themselves, rather than blindly following the machine.striker and RedForeman Thank this. -
