Warren to Laredo. Normally pays less than half that. Maybe $3500 tops. I had just delivered, 5 miles away, before going home, I checked the board and saw $7k. Before I could call it went up to $8k. Lol. It was back when the Power was out in Houston. Everything in Laredo was backed up. Loaded Friday didn’t get empty till Tuesday midnight. No detention pay. That’s the rest of the story. Still Well worth it though.

If it makes you feel any better, when a rate is set in stone, they pay outside Carriers $50 less than their Contractors. Ofcourse they’re getting back 1/3 of that $50. You do the math.

Pretty much, no different. I used to always try to empty and reload same day. Saw it as key to running dry van. True, it helps. But often bit off more than I wanted. Now, I relax. Book more next day Loads. Like a lot of the Flat Bedders do. It’s only one day in the month. I don’t need to be home anymore. So taking a day off, especially down south in the winter is nice. I regret booking these 2 1200 mile trips now. No DH was too tempting. Total revenue for the week looked good. I could have ran a 200 mile trip from Pa. to Md. for $900 tomorrow, instead of turning around and running 1200 miles again for less money, back to the same place. Total revenue would probably be less though. Fine balance between working smart, for less money, and working much harder for more end revenue. I look at net after fuel cost. Weight and added maintenance are factors. Not much though, half the costs are needed regardless of mileage. Wear items obviously, but Drive it easy. I’m surprised how well my Trucks held up, considering most Loads I haul are heavy. My last Truck had the same set up, hauled light mostly. Still had engine and turbo failures same as this one. Almost to the exact mileage. Both dropped a Liner at 825k. I wrecked my last and bought this Truck with a fresh overhaul. Both had 875 k at the time. Coincidence? Must be. Inframe lasted 1.3 mil. Never know with mechanical items. Anything can break at any time.

It sucks when one Load doesn’t cooperate, and you have to cancel 2 loads. Everything falls apart. Start from scratch. Half the time it works out better. Can be frustrating and exciting at the same time. Definitely a roller coaster ride. Helps to know the consignee’ habits. Or call and ask.

Well I can only tell you that now we are shocked and appalled. Emotionally and psychologically compromised.

We've dropped trailer for loading, and have gone in pursuit of some Chinese food to self medicate with.
