wheathauler, is there any good hopper bottom companys around the wichita area to lease onto? I owned and operated my own company from 1995 to 2002 in western ks hauling grain. Long story short lost my buisness in a divorce. I moved to wichita in 02 and have been working for foodliner inc eversense. We pull phnuematic tankers out of cargil and cereal foods.Ive been wanting to get back into being an o/o or do you think its a bad time to start back up? We make decent money but havent ever got over the passion of owning my own truck. I see alot of rate cutting going on and some local grain haulers say there going broke. Some thought s and input would be appreciated. Thanks

Crop Jocky, I like that name. lol . As far as company's in the Wichita area you might check out Freight Logistics they haul out of Cereal foods running to Oklahoma and back and then their is the Kramer Trucking that hauls out of Cargill and then one other outfit that is just south of the Kenworth dealer on Broadway but can't recall their name, he just bought some new KW's all blue and I think he runs out of Cargill also. I know these guys do have some owner operators and have heard good things about them. Wheathauler might know some more.

You sound like my husband. LOL Actually I find it quite fun to find things for him that he cannot guess what it is, and has no clue, until he opens it. You all should have seen his face. It was priceless. :biggrin_25525:

Ive heard alot of bad about freight logistics and there drivers are always complaining lol. Do you haul grain? If ya do im sure ive seen ya a time or two i run the local stuff for foodliner. Ive heard robles is hurting the local guys there undercutting the rates really bad.

No I pull a end dump otr but I live in Enid, OK just south of Wichita and have worked and loaded/unloaded in Wichita for years. Yeah Charles Holmes was the name I was trying to think of, he has been around for years.

I've heard the same about freight logistics. I've seen the Foodliner trucks at the wheat dump at Cargill. I'm not sure I would get a truck yet. Some of these hoppers need to go under to get the rates back up. The rates are the worst I have seen in years.

I know of some outfits in the area but their turn over is almost nil. It's easy to get on with the cheap ones but hard to get with the good outfits.
