It can be a very good thing but so many walk into it without really understanding what they are walking into and it bites them on the butt I would never go back to being a company driver but thats just me
So you want to "own " your own company

I think my husband believes if I'm on the truck with him, I will do the following:
Fit into the lifestyle
Curtail his spending
write a program that makes us rich
I've told him that I could support us and the truck, from my field, if I stay home. He doesn't want that.
His co-workers called me a professional seat-cover. His company asks why I'm "complaining", because we are making money. I was ready to go home and go back to my field, after that. I can make more money on computers, at my level, than any of these guys. I'm stepping down, to be put down, by truck drivers. They wonder why I'm not very nice.
I'm here to learn about brokers, re-learn trucking, and make money. He gave up his authority, so I could learn. I'm not stupid, just out of my element. -
I need 750 a week to pay bills and truck, that does not include groceries, fuel, or fun. That's rent, utilities, truck and insurance. Our truck payment is 1177.25 and rent is 599. I've been on hubby about a maintenance acct. I'm stashing money. We had 4,600 in repairs, one day, last month. The house account was frozen. I couldn't pay bills.
If you buy a truck, you better have 10 grand stashed, insure yourself and make sure your wife can pay the monthly bills. -
after all bills on truck are paid diesel, truck payment, tires, oil changes, brake downs you will make more money driving for someone else.

Truckfam: My wife stays at home and works, which makes it possible for me to go on-the road if I want. So your hubby better be glad you can do that if needed. I'd give anything to have my wife with me in the truck, but she won't get near the thing! As for the put-downs... everyone new always gets that. Your gona have to prove yourself.. thats just the world! But you sound like you a smart woman. I am sure you can do it. Slamen out 1000 lines of C+ code each day, might pay better, but for some of us.. a 6X8 Cubical just ain't the place to be. I.E (Office Space, the movie!), even if it pays $30 bucks an hour!
