So, asking for a friend, how does this work? What makes a dot/MC# valuable? What is the angle? What is the going rate?

    Oxbow Thanks this.

Probably the date it was established makes it worth something to brokers and new authority O/O's. My guess is some people come on here to buy them and resell them for a profit. It also would make sense that a carrier with a horrible safety record would cancel out their old DOT number and apply for a new one, then buy an established MC number to get back in the game quickly. Just speculating, but it makes sense to me.

Basically spend the money up front for a clean MC that’s been around a few years and you don’t look like a new carrier to brokers or an insurance company.

    Oxbow Thanks this.

Unless you buy out an LLC or Inc you’re going to be a new company regardless. A new authority doesn’t mean anything if you have contacts that know you. I got turned down yesterday because I haven’t hit the 6 month mark yet. However the guy called back this morning and was desperate. I found it pleasing to tell him I have a load on the truck for a Monday delivery. If one won’t load you there’s ten others that will. Don’t waste your money on something that you can do yourself a lot cheaper.

I thought that once you cancel your insurance even if you reinstate your Authority that it's basically the same as starting over, the Brokers see you as having no experience or as a new Authority and the same with insurance companies.

    Is that correct?
