Give yourself some credit for catching that and not taking the load.

For those of us who aren't O/O's what is this ? A company took a load for $13k and immediately relisted it for $8k ?

Its a broker trick, they tell one broker they can take a load off their hands for them and get it hauled cheaper and cut the 1st broker a small chunk of change then take a huge chunk of it for themselves and leave the driver with #### for pay. Sometimes this happens through 3 or 4 brokers, next thing you know you're making 20% off a load. For a 108k pound load you're gonna need a 2+3+2 lowboy for certain states and for over dimension loads sometimes you need a rear pilot car and sometimes 2 pilot cars, for loads over 14' tall or 12' wide a lot of the time you need a pole car and a route survey. And with a 2+3+2 lowboy you're over 80k pounds so you need a permit just to deadhead. For each pilot car plus overnight and fees is about $2 per mile, so if you need 2 pilots a pole car and route survey you're looking at $7 a mile just for that. For a 2+3+2 should be paying $9 to $12 per mile to the truck. That load should be paying at least $12 a mile to cover driver, permit and escort. $13,500 for near 2k miles with 190k gross weight is already $7k lower than it should be then blue comet wants to go and scrape another $5k off the top and #### the driver over

Let me add some context here. On a lane that normally pays $5000 to the truck, today I have carriers calling in asking $8000 due to the Yuba City Festival. Some of these are American drivers asking for 2000 over posting because they know they can so this goes both ways...If i take a load from a customer i have to make sure it picks up even if that means i have to pay 8000 and only make 5200, taking a 3000 loss. Other times the customer asks me to find a truck for a load and let them know the rate so i might start at 5000 and it might get up to 7000 as im trying to hook a truck. I'm not 100% what is going on here with out more input, but it could very well be one of the situation i mentioned above. And FYI in my almost 10 years in the biz, I honestly have never made anywhere near 5000 off of one load and i move 100 loads a week and we net over 1 million a year on my account.

Trucking is a cut throat business, one would actually think that real cut throats exist in it. The name isn’t for show you know.
