Yeah, someone said: "He is a truck driver, and won't be able to do anything..
He replied: "How could I do any worse than the present incumbents?"
Kind of shut it down a little

Somebody said they've seen a new outfit with the name. I haven't seen any. It wouldn't be the same outfit though. The last few years they were in business some big financial holding company owned them. They cared more about profits than history and had no problem running the company into the ground.

Man; with your new mattress and my ramp pillow pad design, you should be sleeping like a baby..
You know, waking, screaming and hollering every three hours..:D:D:D
Seriously, hope the mattress has done you some good.

My first highway truck had a Cummins in it. They told me it was a 262 but a 250 was more like it. Or, as our mechanic called it..."a 220 that thinks it's tough". Tach, water temperature, and an oil pressure gauge was all it had on the dashboard. 5 speed main and a 3 speed brownie. Slow, noisy, cold in the winter and pure hell in the summer, and vibrated so bad it would make your teeth hurt. I couldn't steer it and I couldn't stop it but I was truckin'.
I'm glad those days are over.

When did most trucks switch over to diesel, from gas engines.

The PIE remembrance brought up another similar line to me. RISS, ran out of Kansas City. I crossed them going north in IL to WI as they apparently ran E-
W on US30. In the mid 50's, PA turnpike was thick with them. Ran team. Maroon 920 GMC cabovers, external post trailers and the 4 letter R I S S covered the trailer sides. On the pike, you look up, see one in front of you, glance over to the other side, see two coming toward you. Some rumors that the Truman family held the majority interest. Just curious, never saw an abandoned / orphaned trailer anywhere in later years.
