I understand your starting Monday. I assume in Canton. The Truckstop on Michigan and Haggerty would be a place to start. Lot of Locals through there. All the Freight Companies are in Romulus. The last LTL Local job I had was in 1994. Everything has changed. I’m not very familiar with each Outfit, or current Operations. But it’s not hard to find out, by speaking to others. My last job was at a Major well known Michigan based Carrier. The Terminal Manager was a great Guy to work for. Very respectful, reasonable and considerate. He now runs 50 Local Trucks himself. Always looking for. Drivers. No Automotive, No handling Freight. Mostly 1/3-1/2, and Truckload P/Us and Deliveries. Decent Day Cab Equipment. Health insurance. Last I heard he paid $20 hr. to start. That was a few yrs back. OT after 8. Probably work 40+ anyways, but if you had a short day or missed a day, you’d still make some OT if working 12 hrs for 3 days, and 4 hrs the 4th day. Instead of 40 hrs. pay, you’d get paid for 46 hrs. Not bad when time off is needed for family or whatever. I’ve had about 6 Local Jobs in 10 yrs. Before buying a Truck, and running Automotive. Did that for 7 yrs. Being gone 3 nights a week. Always within 8 hrs of home. Not much different as far as home time, vs. 60 hrs Local. Never worked weekends. I’d work for him again. Can’t say that for any other past Employers. Including the previous place We both worked at. If Sysco doesn’t work out, I can give you his #. Just send a PM message. He’s based in Troy.
