Also correct. I just assume dispatchers and brokers have no clue....because most don't.

I am not sure how it was in Canada but be thankful that you did not have to deal with individual states prior to IFTA and IRP, in the Bingo Card days.

One didn't license for all the states and provinces as is done now through IRP, so a company had to deal with each state individually for licensing, fuel tax, and Authority. I got in on the end of that. I rarely praise government for making things better, but in those instances, things are far easier now than then. Oh, and don't forget the legal gross weight of 73,280.

We “break” #4 somewhat frequently. We just permit from stop to stop or hopefully run an annual permit in that state.

the load pictured would have been perfectly legal with a permit in Mississippi.

308 Permits are generally intended for one-piece items. However, it is recognized that there are manufactured products which, when placed side by side, do not appreciably surpass the statutory width; e.g., concrete pipe, rolled hay, shipping pallets. Accordingly, permits may be issued for movement of such products up to a maximum width of ten and one-half (101⁄2) feet.

There is obviously an exemption in many places for round bales, but other than that I am unaware of anything else here. Most hay in my part of the state is either 3x4x8 or 4x4x8.

It makes sense to cater to local industry with exemptions, but it is really frustrating to have to flag, permit, etc. a loader with a 106" wide bucket.

yes that works in some areas and not in others. I believe it is/was Indiana among others that sometimes requests a copy of the BOL to confirm delivery address before routing.

The second part of my post is straight from the Mississippi over dimensional regulations. https://mdot.ms.gov/documents/Enforcement/Permits/Permit Rules.pdf

We can generate our own BOLs as a carrier. Most states just want your money.

I was going thru my brother and dad’s stuff after they passed and found one of my pop’s bingo tags. I’ll have to see if I can dig it back up. But I did learn most of my curse words from my pop sitting at the dining room table with piles of paperwork figuring all that mess out!

There it is. Carried a bingo card with stickers from every state in the permit book to. Speaking of that, the cab cards from every state required quite the permit book to hold them all. Looked kinda like a photo album.
