Hopper, Dump O/O's & Drivers

Southern IL will definitely give you rural. Would imagine going on the other side of the Mississippi will get ya cheaper taxes. Some really cool rolling ground west of the St. Louis.

 

A lot of hoppers and dumps load and unload on the Mississippi river, might be some great hometime work if you lived close. I just would find a home away from the big cities, wouldn't want the kids going to school their.

 

A lot is right . You wait hours to unload . A lot of feed mills aren't much better . Purina in Nashville can be bad . Tyson in Robards KY is another where you'd better pack a lunch .

 

Yeah, making progress on it, almost got the hallway done. Painted it and stripped the old shellac finish off the woodwork trim and doors. I don't have a wife to prod me along, so I work at my own pace. Should get it all done this week if no trucking comes up. Like you say, a great week to be working inside, we had -6 this morning, supposed to be cold all week.

Yep, southern IL or MO would definitely give you a rural setting and near lots of interstates. Like LBZ said, IL isn't a very business friendly state, MO might be a better option for tax purposes. And St. Louis is a great city, lots to do there. I like to visit, just glad I don't live there.

Ugh, good luck with everything dairyman. We could start calving in a week or so, but my dad and brother pretty much handle that.

 

Kansas who do you drive for? just courious,

Wheathauler is it really slow for the local grain haulers. My dad is an o/o out of sublette ks hauling local to the feed yards its crazy plenty of work but they have cut the rates so low he is just setting. I guess let the hungry ones drive themselves outa buisness. Is it like that around the wichita hutch area. I wonder how some are driving the big large car petes like jantz.

 

That is just about everywhere anymore. I use to haul to Acco Feeds (Cargill) in Oklahoma City back in the early 90's and we called it Camp Acco because you would wait and be their storage with no extra pay, the most I waited to unload was 14 hrs. Ralston Purina in Edmond, OK would take an hour or two just to test your load after you pulled on the pit before you could dump. I am sure their are places like that everywhere. I loaded at Bunge in Atchison, KS a few months back and got their early am just to find out they don't start loading trucks until 3pm because the railroad comes first.

 

Who's Jantz? I use to see a custom harvest outfit out of Kansas years ago called Jantz same outfit.

 

Same way you drive a Freightliner, International, Volvo, Kenworth etc..... you just get in it start it, push in the clutch, release the brakes, put it in gear and go. Sorry Crop Jocky I couldn't resist.
