I guess truck stops are much more exciting (lol) than highway rest areas and welcome centers. I can't remember a lot of posts about drivers using rest areas on a regular basis. The convenience of parking at TSs for sleeper time and restarts is obvious, but I was just wondering if many of you make a practice of taking care of business (fueling, showering, etc) at TSs but find rest areas more, how do I put this,....... restful.![]()
Parking in rest areas and welcome centers?

Sometimes the truck stop is full.
However, most of my nights were spent at the docks rather than truckstops.JustSonny Thanks this. -
To much DOT in rest area's . I never use them for anything anymore !
To many states needing money so if they get me they are going to have to work for it.JustSonny Thanks this. -
Of the drivers I know, all except one stop mostly at truckstops. The one who prefers rest areas says he's less likely to be "parked in" there. He's been blocked at truckstops a few times by drivers parking wherever there's room simply because the allocated slots are full... and he hates having to waken a sleeping driver so he can get rolling.

It really just depends on the circumstances. If you have had a long day, want a shower and possibly a sit down meal in a restaurant, then a truck stop is probably your best bet.
OTOH, if you have had a REAL LONG day, have food in your truck, and just need a place to grab a bite and rest for your 10 off, rest stops are fine. I've never noticed any more DOT working rest areas than I have anywhere else.
Welcome centers, on the other hand, can be much LESS than "welcoming" to truckers. Just depends on where you are.Texas-Nana and JustSonny Thank this. -
Well, I just got dumped off and stranded for a couple days. My hours are up and I need a 36 hour reset. He had hours and stuff to move, so He dumped me off, he even gave me his laundry to do.
However, I am not going to complain, because I have nothing to complain about. He dumped me at a friend of his farm house in Iowa. Talk about roughing it, they have a hot tub, a crackling fire place, and I am snuggled up in the most wonerful terry cloth robe. I got my toe nails painted, (cause you know they still gotta look good even if they are in work boots) and I am enjoying hanging out with another female, painting toe nails, shaping my eye brows, doing laundry, (with gain, love that smell) and laughing till it hurts.
On the road I can't do my nails, Mean Dean doesn't like the smell, So I have to rough it and relish moments like these when I get to do my "fluffy stuff".
Dean doesn't like to hang out at rest area's or truck stops more than absolutely necessary. I am just mind boggled by how many friends he has all across this country and they are good people. It seems like no matter where we are he knows somebody. He also plans his trips and such so we can take full use of it.
This time however, he may should left me else where. He has been friends with this guy and his wife forever, so I am learnig some good dirt and tib bits. LOLWorking Class Patriot, Ducks and JustSonny Thank this. -

I only go to a TS when I need fuel or a shower. I can not stand to park in most of them. Between the pee smell and the rude drivers I prefer to stay away from them. Plus I rarely have to worry about some crackho waking me up in the middle of the night.
JustSonny, Big Duker and larrywanders Thank this. -
I too prefer rest areas as opposed to truck stops. Except for showers and fuel (and the occasional sit down meal) I have little use for truck stops.
JustSonny Thanks this.
