Really? A negligent homicide is not an issue of “showing mercy” or not. There was no plan to kill these people.

The other thing that needs to be said is there is many carriers hiring people who are not adequately skilled and giving them no training or support. That needs to be factored here. There’s lots of bad faith actors in the trucking market who will act with negligence in hiring practices (normally to avoid paying higher wages) and then wash their hands of the driver if there’s a crash

So, we are supposed to start adjudicating criminal cases based on online White House Petitions?
Most of the people who signed it probably do not even know the facts of the case. Just that some poor Hispanic guy was on trial got a long sentence. That the US courts was picking on an immigrant.
If it were one of their family members which were killed or injured, they would want a stiffer sentence.

Now truckers are refusing to enter Colorado to support this guy. I don't know. I lay a lot of the blame on his employer putting an inexperienced and not fluent in English driver behind the wheel over the rockies, but he should have known enough to take the emergency truck ramp, unless he couldn't read the sign. This is why the current administration's plan to get CDL's for 18 year olds is a really bad idea. I've met a number of drivers over the years who barely spoke a word of English, and wondered how they ever passed the driving test.

    that's what irks me too.

too many times we have all read of terrible crashes, and how some drivers got away with it.

now a judge finally does something and people gripe about it...

screw them all, it's a done deal.

I guess he thought the people he was crashing into were going to live? He made a choice to kill by not trying avoid a collision. This isn't rocket science.

What's ironic is this happened because the White House made it possible. Our labor jobs and trades should never be given to foreigners. Every American gets screwed by the pos employers that bring these people here. The Feds caused this just as much as the driver.

This is the definition of a bad faith argument. You are trying to shoehorn murder elements into a clear manslaughter case, to justify a sentence that is excessive and serves no real purpose for society

Ok, Matlock. It's about choices. You choose to run people over or you chose not to. Again, pretty simple. Bleeding heart Lefties are the reason people like that racist murderer still kin from families. He should should be swinging from the nearest sturdy branch. Prison is too light of a sentence. He's already getting rich from the Go Fund Me and if he gets bail he'll skip.
