Route advice: Las Vegas NV ---> Clackamas OR

You know it is bad when you can see those little patches reflecting headlights in the snow on the road.

 

I almost took one to the PNW a couple days ago. Glad I didn't. Keep it safe out there, fellas.

 

I've done those routes and some are better left for summer driving. I find that slabbing it (major interstates) even though more miles typically comes out the same amount of time given the ability to drive at speed without a lot of twisty's. If snow hits then the majors will be affected but not nearly as much as the 2-lanes and any accidents throws any plans out the window no matter what way you travel.

 

Over the last couple of years, the interstates have been shut down more often than the state highways. Last week I5 was shut down for quite a while while at the CA / OR border, and 84 in OR was closed on and off all week. It's hard to argue the interstate is "faster" when they keep closing it because of all the snowidiots, not to mention the miles and miles and miles of running chains on bare pavement.

 

It seems like there's less chance of getting involved in group chaos on the skinny roads, and the masses tend to favor the big road.
