a good pre trip can almost take an hour. i really like how this guy does a professional pre trip.
i watched this more than 10 times , and pretty much memorized it.
hsingh_2 Thanks this. -
Pamela1990 and Wargames Thank this.

Its stupid safety propaganda like this that leads to so many guys ignoring pre-trips altogether.
Breaks, Tires, Lights and fluids are what I check with a walkaround for anything obvious. Should take no more than 10-15 minutes.
Are there going to be illegal welds suddenly appear on your wheels in the morning?Wargames Thanks this. -

Has anyone had a dot officer comment on how long they log Pretrips?
What’s the acceptable minimum 15 mins? -
then after that, as i walked up to my truck, i could look under for leaks, did a walk around and check my tires, hubs for leaks, and over all general condition for any damages.
then i'd lift the hood, and check all fluid levels and look for leaks.
then i'd start it up, and check out all the lights
once you do a FULL pre-trip, and got to know the truck, now in my opinion, you are doing quick checks on everything. it took me no more than about 20 minutes for my pre-trips, and that was never a waste of my time.idriveaholden, Wargames and Pamela1990 Thank this. -
the only way to be the best in Trucking, is time, and practice. NO, accidents, NO tickets, NO incidents. My goal would be 20 years and if they can do that, they are The best, and the roads are a much safer place to drive.

Get yourself a nice size piece of cardboard or yoga mat to lay on when under the equipment. Use two chocks for each side of a wheel, something to hold the brake pedal down with about 120lbs of brake pressure, make sure you have at least 95lbs of air built up then shut the truck off.
You should be able to hear any air leaks and/or see any grossly out of adjustment slacks with ease. You can also mark your push rods before the brakes are activated and measure the stroke when you're under there if you want to really get into it too.Last edited: Dec 23, 2021
