    Not a driver.

Would any of these pay issues be addressed if all/more drivers were unionized? My guess is that EVERY driver in EVERY state would have to be unionized across the nation for this to work.

What baffles me is the amount of drivers that will put up with that bs in the first place. Plus the mileage bs, if I drive a 100 miles pay me for 100 miles period. I’m paid for every click on the odometer and the instant I pull up to a delivery by the hour. That’s the way we all should get paid.

It would definitely help, yes. But the average driver has this fantasy that they can go into the boss' office, let him know that he needs a raise like a man, and get that raise. So here we are.

They don't want to "pay someone to go to work," so they work for less.

So do your short time with whatever mega screw job you need for experience and move on to an outfit that’s pays you for what you do. Don’t make a career out of it like some of the whiners on these threads have done.

There's a company that I spoke too today. They have a Dedicated Deck van division delivering Polaris ATV's. .45 CPM + 100 per trailer $8 per stop and $32 dollars for something Else. 2500-2700 miles a week. After I finish training. Just wanted to get some input. Thanks

Probably not a bad gig. Deliver rinse and repeat. Not a lot of down time.

45 cpm is ok for a starter job especially when you stay running. Better than 50-60 for another mega and sitting on your nuts 3 days a week waiting on a load.

So true, no sitting and waiting. Off-load and keep it moving.

Not according to data. Average starting pay after completing a 4 year degree is $55,000 a year. Average truck driver in his/her first year $45,000. Now granted the CDL school costs a fraction of what a college charges for tuition and takes 4 weeks as opposed to 4 years so the truck driver starts working a whole lot sooner and has a lot less debt if any debt but that college grad also works a 40 hour week in a nice safe office while that truck driver LOGS a 70 hour week and likely won't see home for weeks at a time. Meanwhile you got 22 year old guys making 6 figures 3 years out of welding school, plumbers making $250k a year shortly after completing their apprenticeship, etc. Because whenever literally any other industry has a shortage they raise pay until it's filled. Only the predatory scum of the transportation industry sits there stubbornly refusing to make any changes while crying to the government that to allow them to exploit teenagers and migrants for cheap labor. While banking everything on being bailed out by self driving trucks.

That's why OTR vans and reefers, especially reefers should be avoided like the plague that they are. Just say no to any and all offers to pull those. No thanks to loading docks and no thanks to Pulling a 53' box down the interstate for hours especially in a governed automatic truck. I'd rather go find some paint to watch dry.
