Don't forget the banker's hours. If it's not 9-5 the solar powered steering wheel holders crap their diapers.
ELDs encourage unsafe driving when uncontrollable delays occur.

ELD or paper doesn't matter to me. I'm running legal either way. What I'd like is the law written so company drivers can't get taken advantage of, and O/O's can have freedom to run how they want. I don't need a 30-minute break. I can pull over and take as long a break whenever I want. I don't need a 34hr reset. I can go home and take days off whenever and however long I feel like it. And I don't understand the 70hr rule at all. WTF does what I did eight days ago have to do with today? I can live with the 11/14 part. I understand the safety aspect. But I feel like the rest is to protect drivers from employers, and I don't see how an O/O needs that protection from.....himself.
So maybe a separate set of rules for the company driver, and the O/O would be nice. Leave the 11/14 with ten off, and cut the rest would be perfect for an O/O in my personal opinion.Patilan, Gearjammin' Penguin, LameMule and 3 others Thank this. -
Those who are safe, no violations, are smart enough to use papers FLEXIBILITY... when they need it, should enjoy the fruits of being a good safe violation free company, stay on paper.
We forget why eld happened.
Big megas pay crap, drivers cook the books to make more, FMCSA started the points systems, carriers started having too many points, they needed a way to keep their OWN drivers in line. Hence elogs. Thanks Warner.
They then realized they needed EVERYONE on elog to "level the playing field" because their productivity was down, so let's have the ATA lobby guberment to fix our mess.
Good safe drivers and companies should have the ability to have some flexibility, do issues like the OP is having, can be handled. Call it a perk, whatever, it's the spoils of being a safe compliant company. They can do it by allowing paper, or add it to the HOS.RedForeman and LameMule Thank this. -

Or getting stuck, as the OP was, waiting to get pummeled by a storm, when some "flexability" would let you get out of it.
It's not always about money.Brettj3876, nredfor88, TallJoe and 2 others Thank this. -
Eld's seem to be a simple minded solution to a complex problem.nredfor88, Mototom and ProfessionalNoticer Thank this.
