Shifting a car and shifting a semi-truck are not at all alike. If you shift a car like you ARE SUPPOSED TO SHIFT A TRUCK your car will need a new clutch by the end of the week. If you shift a truck like a car you will never leave the parking lot because it will stall every attempt to move. The 2 vehicles have some components in common, but that is it. Experience shifting a car before driving a truck will make it harder to learn to to shift a truck. Someone with no experience shifting gears in anything is better prepared to learn to shift a truck.

i have driven manual passenger vehicles before but i could probably count on 1 hand how many times ive had that opportunity. the last time it was a chevy S10 parts chasing pickup at the one trucking company i worked at. i caught myself double clutching (a habit from trucking)

i think the clutch use is probably the biggest difference, in a car you want to push the clutch in all of the way..... with a truck if you do that your clutch brake wont be long for this world. why does a car not have a clutch brake? is the because a truck doesnt have a syncro and a car does? i always wondered why a syncromesh heavy duty truck transmission was never developed.

I hardly ever touched the clutch to take a car out of gear and just tap it to grab the next gear. Never got any gear clash.

What is "Double Clutching" a Semi?
NEVER Did Such although I've read here and other Sites about such activity.
I wasn't taught such activity in Truck Driver training.
Sounded like Steve McQueen "Double Clutched" the Mustang in Bullitt which seemed weird.
