For those of you that use pocket winches - could you take some pics of how you spool them and finish the tail? I've tried a different way every time I've used them, and I can't find a way I like. There's got to be something obvious I'm missing.

Well, no picture because it's cold and dark out, but I put the end through, pull it tight and fold the end with about 20" folds so that when I tighten it, it just starts to pull the folded part into the winch (there's usually not enough room if it has to go under the bottom of the spool). I cut down 10 or so full length straps and have a couple short ones just so I don't have to deal with long ends.

Yeah, I get that. One of the other ones that I've seen the motor bolts in place of the pumpkin. So you still have everything off the shelf. Interesting to see where it all goes in the end.

Once the folds start to go into the winch, do you just let the rest of the folded section hang out, and then tape it to the strap or something? I'm 82% sure I'm picturing it right.

Not sure how well you can see it, but I just let it hang. Now if the load is something that settles or the strap can’t be tight, the folds can come out if the strap gets flappy in the wind which is why I cut them down.

I see now. I was picturing you pulling the strap through the winch towards yourself first. You're going over the winch, and then putting it through towards the load. I was picturing it backwards. Man, that's perfect. Thanks for the pic.
