Any one know anything about these transmissions. I have a 74 gmc astro and for some reason i parked my truck for awhile and the only way you would start it was by having the clutch pressed. When you took your foot off the clutch it kills the truck. When i took everything apart the truck was in neutral and could go into one gear but still not move. I pulled it backwards and it freed that stuck gears and drove it and worked all fine with no issues. So. I parked it last night and it just did it again and will not go into any gear. I finally got it to go in any gear but will still not move and they truck can stay running while its in neutral. Not sure what is going on with it. Shops told me i might need a nee transmission. Any help would be appreciated.

In two gears at the same time? Flip the top over. Check the forks shafts and such.

Shift tower assembly could be worn out and allowing it to go into two gears. Being a vintage cabover makes it more possible. Can't say I recall if a astro is mechanical or cable. Take it off look were shift rails are. Manually engage one and see if it moves.

    Idk just my thought.

Follow the shifter rod if it has that kind and not the cable and be sure all the pinch bolts are tight at every connection `and have safety wire twisted around them? That can make shifter or shifter rod if cab is jacked up, and feel like N but still be in gear, be sure you put the safety catches down to keep the cab locked and not mashing you while your tighten up all pinch bolts at every joint on the shifter rod.

Mechanical. Stick mounted on a bracket with gear box, I thought about that but very unusual to get those to start working again just messing with the stick. That is a good point so look at that as well. When you remove the four bolts holding tower on check it out. Shaft and bushings worn out in the tower. End on the shift finger worn down. Either one or a combination of both can cause problems.

Then its junk, best I know.

Only thing is if HI/Lo coupler is stuck in the middle.

Does it stall the engine with clutch engagement, or act like it has 10 neutrals?
