Swift

I was quoted the pay rate after you are through with your trainer.Will be .25 per mile for 1 st 3 months,next 3 months at .26 at 9 months .32 and after 1 year you would be at .34 per mile.

 

I live in Northern Virginia, im thinking to go with Swift will start in Feb '10. I havent driven in 2 years as got out of cdl school and couldnt go trucking for medical reasons. I did ask the recruiter abt taking the swift training and or i will take a local refesher at my expense and convience.

Are you still with swift? How are the miles? winter driving? money? what are u driving, i would consider flatbed, how are u liking swift and trucking overall. thanks.

I have not started with Swift yet.I have orientation set for Jan 21 in Dallas Tx. These were the rates quoted to me last week .

 

I would also like to get some info on swift attending roadmasters in san antonio in march and was told swift would be a great starter company

 

Wow, .25 cpm. If your lucky to get 2000 miles in a week, that's a whole $500.

After taxes and meals, you might clear $250 to $300 if your lucky.

But it will go up to 34 per mile im sure these guys are doing pretty good that are with swift everybody is going to have there own opinion

 

Taxes? When living on the road, everything you spend is a business expense...meals, clothes, phone...your tax liability may not be as high as you think. Get a pro to help you. We don't want you giving the current administration any more resources to use against us...it only encourages them.

 

How is a person supposed to make it through the training period at $500.00 a week? I'm looking at all the different threads here and man it's depressing. I don't honestly know if I'll survive to make it to the other side.

 

You'll need a microwavable bowl and a source for utensils (forks, spoons). Maybe some spices and a change in attitude towards eating.... As I understand it, the hotel room has a microwave and refridgerator? If so get to the grocery store and start eating healthy. Lots of stuff available that cooks in microwave along with fruits and vegetables that can be eaten raw. You can suppliment this stuff with dollar menu fast food items. Don't waste money on soda pop and snacks like potato chips and cookies. I have lived on $10 per day in food costs. I am quite comfortably fed on $15.

 

I highly recommend flatbed, its where the miles are at right now with swift. When I was a company driver I would average 2700-3000 miles a week easily, as an owner op I average anywhere from 2800-3200 miles a week and you have a bonus of being able to run van loads also in case you get in areas that don't have any flatbed freight. You'll always be moving. When your a student the money is really tight, but if you can make it thru those 6 weeks it is well worth it, and sometimes if you get a good mentor he will pay for some of the meals. Just depends on the way he is. Swift has been really good to me, I had to take a week and half off while I was still a company driver due to a family emergency and they let me take truck and everything home, checked in to see how everything was goin and see if I needed more time or not. I can't complain about them, but I also have a really really good DM that cares about his drivers. Even as an owner op he still looks out for me as if I was a company driver and helps me out as much ad he can when I ask him for help.


Once you hit a year you'll be up around .34cpm. You'll start at .25cpm and you'll get 5 raises within the 1st year. Flatbedders will get a penny more per mile, plus tarp pay. And load and unload pay if your doin chasis.
