I have been working for this company for 3 years and now they are saying it is now required for me to get my twic card. even though where I work out of, we do not do any loads that require one because I mostly do dedicate and reginal runs. and the company is refusing to pay for the card or the time for me to go get one. I have to take a day off of work and drive to the other side of the state to visit the place you get the TWIC Card at also; they will not pay you any more for having one. So, I'm starting think it might time for me to move on to something else.
I'm just looking for advice on if someone else was put in the same situation what they would do. I believe if the company is now requiring something they should at least pay for it or make it right. which I seen plenty of other companies will help pay for it. I just feel like there trying to screw me over by having me do stuff for the company for no pay.
Thanks

I'd probably find another company especially if they aren't paying for it. How will you ever recoup that money ?
TWIC was pretty easy to get though. Can't remember what it cost me.
Good luck -
If they won't pay for it, I'd tell them no way.
I've been driving since late 2017, and just used my TWIC for the first time a couple months ago, and now, will probably never use it again. I really doubt I'll renew it. -
What lovely company is this?
-
the least they could do is pay for it -
had to get one of those several years ago -company paid for it, 140 bucks ,had to go to San Antonio to get the dum thing- never used it, it expired past monthTall Mike Thanks this. -
I better check the expiration on mine I need that thing to haul cars out of some of the ports.
superpet39 and austinmike Thank this. -
Some companies pay some don’t…… we get to use our company credit card for twic but we have to pay outta pocket to renew hazmat background
When i think about it…. $125/5 years = $25/yr I’m not gonna sweat the small stuff (if they decide to start making us pay for it)…
(I know we get a discount for doing both at the same time, but since company won’t pay for hazmat background: technically it would be misuse of company credit card )Last edited: Feb 6, 2022

What does a TWIC cost?

If they bulldoze you like that now....one can't help but wonder....what's next, out there in the future...from them?
I've noticed that most respectable establishments gladly reimburse you for such (if you in fact DO need it)--as has been referenced to, earlier/above.
How much more of that kind of treatment is "enough"? Where/when do you draw the line?
I would suggest that if you let them treat you like that now--then they generally won't respect you, later.
Also--allowing that to happen, without any consequence....sets up a bad precedent with other drivers there, for subsequent similar treatment.
Disrespect happens in many forms/places. It has NO PLACE in an environment that at least pretends to be professional-grade.
The good news here is that for the most part anyway, it's a driver's market in the job world right now.
if you've been there for 3 years--then it certainly follows that you are indeed NOT a "job hopper".
I would make plans to move onto someplace else that views you as something better than a company doormat.
FOOTNOTE: I don't just talk the above talk--I also did the walk. Left my last romantic relationship for similar reasons; left my last driving job for similar, as well. Now, looking back on it all, I'm certainly glad I did.
Life is just waaaaaaaayyyy too short to tolerate chronic disrespect. Especially in the trucking world.
