Compared to the new turbos, the old style non waste gated can be had for 600-700 instead of 5k Lol I consider that not too expensive

singlescrewshaker and Dino soar Thank this.

    The belt buckle.

Once you decide you need the belt buckle, you're going to pay quadruple for everything.

    Including the truck itself.

It is all relative. The parts' prices themselves should be affordable for every owner. Parts are nothing...you can have them all and stash them in a closet. Overhaul kits, turbos, radiators, harnesses, ECMs...etc.
The costly are the circumstances of when and where they break and who is working to fix them.
For instance, one ECM debacle cost me once the total of 12 grand, before the truck became operational again - towing, truck rental, incompetent shop, final towing ... In hindsight, it should have cost less than 2 grand...had I had the knowledge, a spare ECM, a few wires and a solder - and did it myself.

Engine is hands down the most expensive. But a set on injectors will hit you hard in the pocket as well. Automatic transmissions are very expensive as well. Manual transmission are much cheaper. The rears a expensive as too.

Probably a DEF sensor. What's that running these days? About four months downtime?

Forget the most expensive parts of drivetrain components, it’s the down time that’s the most expensive.
