You can definitely make more just by taking jobs in the vendor/route business. When you work local for a lot of these bigger companies, the pay is going to be subpar. They aren't going to be looking that hard to fill this positions. Their focus is going to be OTR drivers.

 

Slave wages for a truck driver. Start looking for other jobs. With a year experience and no accidents on your record you can get on with most companies.

 

I had a local job hauling 53ft reefers with a day cab to grocery stores that was a mix of mileage and stop pay. Worked out to $16ish per hour. This was not bad for South Florida. Some weeks I grossed as little as $600 if things weren't busy.
