I plan to become an authorized carrier for LS to give it a try as I’ve always done local with direct customers. Got a friend of mine who’s a broker with them and he told me there’s some good OS runs out there. Any advice to a first timer working with them?
I plan to use this to fill gaps in my local stuff.
So far this post has been super informative and helpful! Yes I’ve read the entire thing

You could do better than LS, there is far better stuff out there.

Different needs and different perspectives, one size doesn’t fit everyone.

Do you know of any you could point me to? Like I said I’ve never done any broker work or load boards for that matter…just testing the waters to see what’s out there.

The fuel volatility is crazy right now, I normally fuel in the morning, but the last two days fuel prices have jumped between .07 and .11 cents overnight. I’m going to start topping my tanks off everyday before I shut down. They are predicting as much as .30 cent jump between now and Monday.

We get the National average fuel surcharge, but when it’s the volatile you are behind the eight ball. I’m in no rush on this load I picked up in Texas, so today across Texas and Arkansas I ran 63mph, I’m averaging 9.3mpg. I’m definitely going to slow down when I can, and try and recoup some of that revenue.

I’m booked out until next Thursday, so that’s good. I was offered a regular load out of Ohio going back down to the Carolinas from an agent today. I told her we will see how this one turns out, if it goes smooth I might be interested.

Another thing to consider now that fuel prices are nearing $5 a gallon nationwide, fuel thefts will be on the rise. Back in 08’ when fuel spiked I had my tanks siphoned as I slept in Louisana.

My tanks already have the anti-siphon sleeves inserted, (I’ve heard stories of those being by punched out with a hammer and punch) so I’m ordering locking fuel caps as well today.

It's one reason our fuel department says fuel in the morning. Not when you park. It'd really suck to wake up to empty tanks after fueling the night before.

I’d recommend some lights over top of your fuel caps. Thieves generally prefer to work in the dark.
