In other news, Junior Squid sat for his 2nd Class test today — he probably doesn’t know his own name right now if his buddies got ahold of him

I might have sampled a few Schlitz’s — #### sure sampled gallons of San Miguders — never had the pleasure of Falstaf

When I was a kid in the 50s, we would go to my grandparents place in Central Minnesota in the summer. the men would be drinking either Schlitz or Hamms. They always though it was cute to sneak the little kid, me, a sip of beer. Had a lot of sips too til my mom found out

Ever go TDY with Tanduay Rum? Had to "break" my barracks mate loose enough to sit up after a Trick 3 break party. He would groan and beg me. "Just break me loose" so I can sit up. Once sitting, he would stumble up and get going, but almost paralyzed till initial movement. 9th ASA have a party in Angeles, have the San Miguel folk bring a couple of kegs, get a local to do a "pig on a twig" sit, eat, swig, and stagger...Sell enough Long Chesterfields to finance all of it.
Cigs cost $.90 per carton in BX, sell on local market for 16 P's. Any Scotch (White Horse, Black and White, Dewars White Label) cost <$5.00 and sold for 20 P's. Chesterfields were the closest "ready rolls" to the native tobaccos and any Scotch had to have"White" in the name. Trade goods...

There is an author that wrote WWII stories. Web Griffen if I remember correctly - reading his stories one would think that WWII was fought and won in a large part because of Famous Grouse scotch. Your post reminded me of this.

We went up to Angeles one time and it didn’t end well so we stayed on the down low in the Barrio — monkey ribs, lumpia and San Migudders — Good Times

I read a lot of his books, and was almost converted from"Haig and Haig Pinch" to Grouse just on his comments.
Man writes some convoluted stories and gives you a printed interpretation as well.
Almost .. almost.. as enjoyable as a sleeping dictionary in Laredo or Juarez.
Lovers by night, fighters by day... Drunkards by choice, the 9th ASA...
