Got my CDL Class A this week.
My background in trucking - I drove a non CDL box truck throughout NY, NJ, CT, PA. This is obviously different than tractor-trailer driving, but I know trucking. I'm not a complete newbie where I don't understand the truck, rules of the road, etc.
I wanna get a couple months of experience in. I heard the other MEGAs have you with a trainer for like 3 months or 6 months.
I heard about Schneider training program where it's 3 weeks with a trainer then you are on your own. This is what I prefer.
Is Schneider a good company to get the initial experience in?
How much do they pay new drivers?
How do they pay? per mile? 1099 or W2?
Do they do OTR or is it all regional and more closer to home?
Is it possible to get in at least 2500 miles a week if they do OTR?
I am in NJ so will most likely do their dedicated regional accounts if they don't do OTR.
Is Schneider a good starter company?

Read the following Forum thread (the whole thing), and then think about it:

Granted, his situation of course does not happen to every incoming driver. But really???
What does that sort of story say about any carrier?!?
Find someone else who treats new blood better...MUCH better.

How close are you to Elizabeth?

Look at TransAm.
I think riding with a trainer is less than two weeks.
CDL school tuition reimbursement also.
All tractors come equipped with an Auxiliary Power Unit (“APU”)
