All I can tell you is a friend of mine ordered a W900 a week ago and it’s for April 2023 delivery. The guy where I park when I’m home is waiting on 2 more 389’s to show up this year and they’re telling him 2023 for the other 3.

Found a Western Star 5700 dealer slot ordered in April 2021. Snatched it up in August 2021. Delivery was set for January 2022.

In November i saw an article saying Western Star was canceling the 5700. Dealer couldn't or wouldn't confirm, kept saying my order was still good.

January came and went, no truck, no info from dealer. Kept checking weekly.

February comes, no truck. Mid February lost a turbo in my T680. Upon inspection might as well rebuild the engine, 750k miles on odometer. I was told a week for delivery of engine.

March comes. No engine no new truck. Mid March find out Western Star finally made an announcement the truck will be built in 3rd or 4th quarter 2022, 2023 model. Still haven't released designs, but looking at sneak peak of pics on web, looks like they are changing the 5700 to a glorified Cascadia.

Took the engine a month to arrive. Kept getting the story, "It's all due to the shipper, they're short handed."

All I can say is wow!

That’s another thing. I always thought 15 or 20% capital gains (depending on the tax code, it’s always going from one or the other) Basically having to pay any gains above 20% of the original price paid. Since it’s been deprecated down to 20% of original price paid. Thanks to ttr, I’ve learned than any gain is taxed as income in the year sold. I honestly don’t know how it all works.

Nothing has changed since I ordered mine last year. It is still slow as can be. If you want want better get it ordered ASAP if they are taking orders.

Every lot around me is full of already built cars and Pick ups, waiting on a few final parts. Some manufacturers are selling vehicles as is. Missing add on items. Mostly navigation systems needing chips. No telling how fast the current inventory will last, once the parts are available. Have been some layoffs. Mostly though, I can only wonder, in a year or two, what the outcome will be. Maybe an over abundance of vehicles. Never know. During a recession, first thing that gets postponed is a new vehicle purchase. Next it’s durables like refrigerators, then homes, leading to further drop in demand. Manufacturing is either headed for a big drop, resulting in layoffs. Maybe all this will avoid the natural cycle altogether. Never know. After hurricane Katrina, Louisiana housing went way up, while the rest of the country was down 50%. Everything’s so out of whack. I doubt anyone knows how it’s all going to shake out.

The key phrase is “Long Run”. The decision depends on the current Truck itself. If you like it, keep it. If not, upgrade. I’m happy running my old Classic. It has everything I need. Once you spend that much on the overhaul, you’ll still have other increased maintenance costs. All things considered might take 2-3 yrs. to justify the cost. Probably longer in reality. It sounds crazy, but maybe 800k miles, by then it’s worthless. Rebuild it again and after a yr. or 2, you’ll finally start to get ahead. Since just about every part has been replaced. The actual operating cost will be very low, third time around. Better to upgrade if you can. Might not get any easier, when costs upgrading current Truck is factored in. In other words, you have to stick with the Truck longer to justify the cost. Basically trapped in the current Truck, always chasing it, waiting for a chance to get out of it.

You must have been waiting already a year, have you not? It will kind of suck if it is delivered at the time of dismal low rates and super high diesel price if it continues the way it does.
Still, it is an investment for the long run, so the sooner the better. In any case, there is no better time to buy than when the rates are dismally low and everyone wants out...

No matter what I do, be it preventively or reactively, I always spend close to $20K every year. And I think it will stay that way for as long as this truck is in commission. Soon after when the last original part will be replaced, I sure will have to start replacing all those I replaced first, and so the never-ending cycle goes.
Just need to have $20K allocated for repairs and maintenance in the budget at all times.

Yes was a year this month. Actually the reason I ordered it was because I seen the fuel prices going to sky rocket when I seen Brandon win. This was the reason I ordered the truck. Set it up to do better then the one I have now. Will off set cost more in my favor.
