I just got back from a short trip to visit my daughter in Oregon. Deisel prices at Love's and PFJ along the I-5 in NorCal were averaging $6.50 per gallon. In Oregon it was down around $5.25 per gallon. I feel for you guys out there dealing with this BS right now with the rates on a downswing.

I was bored today and came up with this. I’ve put 27646 miles on my new truck, burned 4051 gallons for an average so far of 6.82mpg. I’ve spent $16434.21 for an average of $4.05 per gallon.

My old truck averaged 5.3mpg with a dry van so I would’ve burnt 5216 gallons and it would’ve cost me $21124.80.

In less than 3 months I’ve already saved $4690.51 in fuel. As the engine breaks in I will keep widening the gap between my old truck. I should see a minimum of $20k saved for the year.

Good for you you did not sell this one but the old one. Especially, that it burnt 5.3 mpg with a dry van! I thought that my 6.2 - 6.5 was horrible but 5.3 is hard to accept at 5 dol per gal...Remember what Rutherford used to say a few years back about trucks with less than 6.00 mpg? He would get rid of them in a heartbeat. But for now, they got rid of him. End of story.

Back in 2012/2013 when fuel was pretty high I was getting 4.5 or so pulling a cattle trailer. 2012 I spent $96k in fuel and that has stuck in my head ever since. Lol. At the end of the day it’s about 17 cents a mile difference so far. It’s nice to have that extra money but 17 cents isn’t a deal breaker.

Is that because the cattle trailers aren't too areo dynamic? They should not be as bad as open decks, should they?
Fact is that I always saw them in hammer lane at 85mpg on I 80 NE or WY. I know because I was not the slowest guy on the interstate either...curious if they have a reason to be in a hurry or is it just a trademark of sorts.
