I’m pretty sure that price does not include FET. My first RGN was a Kaufman 35 ton with those rear ramps. I ended up removing the ramps to save weight, because I never used them. But I don’t haul tractors on my RGN, just dozers and excavators and motor grader and big vibratory compactors and the water truck. None of that fits over the rear very easily or safely. About five years ago I bought an excavator too large for the 35 ton, so I sold it and bought a new 50 ton Kaufman. Paid less for it than the price shown in your photo, and that’s after I ordered upgrades like aluminum wheels and 275 tires and bucket trough. It’s served me well so far, although I don’t use it every day like the big companies would do. And the 95 inch swing clearance pretty much precludes the use of a jeep, which would be nice occasionally when we work in states that won’t permit 46k on a tandem drive axle. Another point to make about using it to go retrieve a down truck is that only short daycabs will fit in that 24 ft. well.

This Talbert beam trailer I use to pull for R&L was actually electric over hydraulic. All 12 volt, just push a button and pull the levers. Actually was pretty nice. I’ve considered installing one on my lowboy as a backup to my pony motor setup….

Just to be clear for the OP, it had a 12 volt motor that ran the hydraulic pump instead of a gas engine, is that correct? I think @stwik mentioned that his company uses those as well.

We have a 21' well on ours. When I have hauled one of our tractors I back the last drive axle over the front trailer axle. More of a hassle, and raises the cab height a bit, but worse fine.

Thanks again for the responses everyone. That gooseneck one looks very interesting too. I have an F350 with a tow bed that would work. Like someone said though, I’d have to look at overloading and maybe would be better to just keep with a semi truck if the price isn’t much different. Still, it’s very interesting.

It is disheartening the talk of the pony motors being unreliable.

I have a weeks worth of research to do with all of the great suggestions. It’s refreshing learning something new.

@W923 spoke about what he uses for chains. What does anyone else recommend? Sort of like a starter package for a nooby… the parts that you use to tighten everything are called binders correct? How about those?

Haha that’s so rookie to ask but I hadn’t saw equipment be chained down in person since I was a little kid. I remember they chained it, had those binders in the line, and used a long pipe to break it over so to speak. Where do you buy this stuff that is quality material?

I was definitely wondering how the pandemic/inflation/stimulus etc had affected these type of trailers. I could tell you literally anything about the truck, van, or reefer market but I have zero idea of a baseline for how much higher these type of trailers are then before.

a lot higher - not double, more 50% miles but lie anything else if you want new - a long way out.

I have run all self contained (pony motor) trailers and never had a major issue other than the idiot running them didn’t fill up the fuel can.

Yes Sir, it had a 12 volt motor running off 2 batteries up in the neck of the trailer….
