I've been driving for several years now and as I drove through Chicago tonight, it dawned on me that I am getting really tired of people blazing past me in the 45 MPH construction zones on I-294 in Chicago. I'll go 50 as to not impeed traffic too much, but it's like I'm basically the only one who actually follows the 45 MPH speed limit despite there being signs that say "photo enforced" (which obviously it's not photo enforced or 99% of the drivers would get speeding tickets outside of peak traffic times). The cops seem to do nothing about this either.
Does anybody know if this particular section of Chicago that I'm talking about is only a construction zone speed limit when workers are present? Or when the lights are flashing on the cones? What am I missing here? Or do people in Chicago, including the cops, just not care?

You got it, nobody cares, just go with the flow
Badmon, SoulScream84, Coffey and 5 others Thank this. -
I drive there every week day or night ...no one cares ...just stay away from left lane ...all it takes is one good cop
ProfessionalNoticer, nredfor88, Coffey and 5 others Thank this. -
no one cares just be aware of cops, like the previous guy said stay away from left lane. Go with the flow. I would t go past 55. That’s just me.

I love going the speed limit in that area, just to piss off all the drivers that like to speed through construction zones.
And that 'photo enforcement' only happens when they have a van in a lane taking pictures.
It would be great if those photo enforced zones actually had automated cameras. Maybe then people would slow down a bit.just_sayin, jethro712 and Magoo1968 Thank this. -
There was a post here on a camera ticket. Pretty sure it was 294

Nobody cares, and it’s like that everywhere. Sometimes even the workers in the coned off area will speed through their own construction zone faster than the traffic in the travel lane. Makes me shake my head, but I still stick close to the posted limit mostly out of respect for the workers on the ground, also because I know even if I follow the flow then I’ll be the one exception that gets pulled over because that’s just the way my luck goes.

I hate 294; I cut over to 355, don’t care if it adds miles. I also try to detour around going thru that i80 Joliet section.

Just find someone going a reasonable speed and tuck in behind them. I drive that road every day, and yeah. The speed limit doesn't mean anything until the cops decide it does.

In this country, nobody cares about a speed limit. It's more noticeable in the Chicago area.
just_sayin and Kyle G. Thank this.
