I havent worked for either company but just from reading on the boards other peoples stories and talking to some truckers, i would have to say go with swift. like others have said, do your homework on both and make a logical decision as to what fits YOU! good luck with your decision and keep us updated on what you do.

Swift hands down! I never met a happy Werner driver in all honesty! Most of the ones I talked to were asking me about coming over to Swifty lol. Seriously! That's not to say that all Werner drivers are miserable and broke by any means. Most of the ones I ran into at shippers and ts's were fairly new.

They probably run fairly similar though but I never had too many issues getting my truck fixed which seems to be a big deal at Werner according to the drivers I've talked to.

can you elaborate a little? I am also a Veteran... received my CDL from a "Farm" and I am not needing to step out into this fun stuff and suck it up for a year... GI Bill can be used? Who said that, Werner? Please advise... thanks

They both suck. All I can really say is weigh the pro's and con's of each lie their recruiters tell you.

I worked for swift had to leave due to medical. I was out ok city and they good people tried every way to help me. money is not great at first but it is what it is. they all suck on money when you are new. the vets on here bad mouth them real bad so take it with a grain. keep your eyes open and pay attention and youll do fine. Swift is not a place to retire from its a place to get your start and get some miles. if you keep that in your head then it'll be fine. oh and for the english teacher on here I'm having trouble seeing so excuse the poor english and grammer

You will be able to use it as a Appreniship OJT while in your 1st year you will be able to recive about 1300 a month from the VA plus what you will recive from the company you are driving for

Dont really trust the "horror stories" on here unless you do your research on some things people say on here, talking to truckers face to face and veterens is really the best thing to do, you can better analize what they tell you.

I too am a vet and I used some of my GI bill for OJT while in law enforcement and I can tell you right now it's not 1300 a month. It is about 200 to 300 hundred every month and don't plan on seeing that money anytime soon cuz it takes at least three months on avg. to start getting the money but the first check is back pay. I too am looking into using my GI bill for OJT in Trucking, law enforcement wasn't for me. Roehl is my first choice but if they won't hire me then it will probably come down to Swift and Werner and just from what I've read and heard personally from Werner drivers, I don't know if the lil bit of extra money I'll get from the VA will make up for driving a truck that's always in the shop cuz of mechanical issues, which from what I gather most of Werner driver's have. The other thing I've found out from talking to some Werner drivers is that Werner will tell you that you can go solo after your training is over but then all of a sudden there's no solo spots and you and to run teams or quit and of course if you quit they put refused to take load and a bunch of other crap on your DAC black balling you. All I'm saying is just make sure that extra 2000-3000 for the year is worth going to Werner. I wish the best of luck to all newbies in finding a job they can live with until they get some experience. AND HEY I'M IN THAT BOAT TOO. SEMPER FI.

:biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559: I guess there is no BS with all those drivers sitting around truckstops .
But research , yes . Check Safersys.org for carriers safety records and google their quarterly financial reports .
